The Engadget Show returns Wednesday, June 23rd with Jimmy Fallon, Microsoft Kinect, and more!
Posted on June 17, 2010 | No CommentsThat's right, Engadgeteers -- the tables have turned. Next Wednesday, June 23rd, the Engadget Show returns full force with a very special guest: Jimmy Fallon, host of NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (and also a major geek). Jimmy will be sitting down with us for the kind of frank, eye-opening, and downright thrilling one-on-one conversation only the Engadget Show can provide. Not only that, but we'll have the Microsoft Kinect live and on stage for a hands-on demo -- so you'll get a chance to see it in action long before it hits shelves this November! And there are lots of other major surprises in-store.
We'll also have music from the inimitable Glomag, along with some stunning visuals. Oh, and did we mention the crazy giveaways? Like... a pair of new Xbox 360s? Seriously, you do not want to miss this one -- it's going to be epic.
The Show will be taking place at the Rose Auditorium in Cooper Union's New Academic Building, located in Manhattan at 41 Cooper Square. Seating is extremely limited, so get there early!
Here's all the info you need:
- There is no admission fee -- tickets are completely free
- The event is all ages
- Ticketing will begin at 5PM on Wednesday, doors will open for seating at 7:30PM, and the show begins at 8PM
- You cannot collect tickets for friends or family -- anyone who would like to come must be present to get a ticket
- Seating capacity is limited (only about 200 seats in the theatre), and once we're full, we're full
- The venue is located at 41 Cooper Square New York, NY 10003 (map after the break)
- The show length is around an hour
Sprint is offering 50 guaranteed tickets to the Engadget Show taping to the first 50 entrants who text "ENGADGET" to 467467 or enter online! Standard text messaging rates apply. Click for the Official Rules and see how to enter online.

Getting Iced-Out With CrystalRoc

Showing that you are opulent and tasteful often go hand-in-hand. Then there are those who simply think in excess. I mean, you need to show that you are, in fact, royalty right?

Gears of War 3 all set for April 5, 2011
Posted on April 13, 2010 | No CommentsYup, Gears of War 3 is now official. I mean, Microsoft already accidentally spilled the beans (what a dumb idiom, by the way) last week, but now the fancy press release has been sent out, and all is well in the world.

Video: iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 1 jailbroken in no time flat
Posted on April 9, 2010 | No Comments
Late last night, we put up a post debunking the idea going around the Bloggerdom that the iPhone OS 4.0 Beta had already been jailbroken, because, well, it hadn't.
But now it has.

Sirius XM proves its worth this week with Winter Music Conference broadcasts
Posted on March 23, 2010 | No CommentsThere's one week per year that there's reason to listen to Sirius XM beyond XM Channel 202 The Virus. That's right, it's Winter Music Conference time, a time when the world's top DJs and producers descend upon Miami and have themselves a good ol' Dionysian time. House music, trance, progressive, Dutch tourists trying to find food that won't kill them, etc. It's a good example of what satellite radio could have been.

Ringo Starr is not good at Rock Band. And?
Posted on January 15, 2010 | No CommentsFamous rock star Ringo Star was on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night, and he admitted that he's "crap" at Rock Band. This is news only in the loosest sense of the term because the headline should read, "Old man not good at video games."

Oh boy: World of Warcraft Patch 3.3 goes live today
Posted on December 8, 2009 | No CommentsTuesdays usually stink for World of Warcraft. The servers go down early in the morning for maintenance, and then stay down well after the scheduled time more often than you'd care to see. Today doesn't stink, since Patch 3.3 is indeed dropping. I cannot wait to leave the terribly fancy TC/CG office, get home, fire up the game, then PUG till the sun comes up.

Union Square Best Buy: Your Exclusive Keytar Dealer
Posted on November 21, 2009 | No CommentsSo is everyone totally freakin’ stoked about the new Best Buy in New York City?! Yeah, I didn’t think so. But if you need a late night electronics fix and you’re around Union Square, the brand-new flagship store is open 24-hours a day. First one in the world, actually. Did anyone else miss out on the [...] -
And the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott, how’s that going?
Posted on November 17, 2009 | No CommentsIt turned out that a lot of those so-called Modern Warfare 2 protesters were talking jive, as they played the game late into the night, alone with their hypocrisy. (It's overdramatic Tuesday, by the way.) How did the Left 4 Dead II protesters do?

HTC’s HD2 has landed at Engadget (hands-on)
Posted on November 4, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets
That's right... the HD2 has landed. Actually, we took the phone over to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon the other day, but didn't get a chance to show it off, so here we are. Sure, you've seen this guy in action in earlier videos... but it's still nice to get a look at this monster up close. We're still blown away by the fact that this is a Windows Mobile 6.5 device -- the skinning job that HTC has done here is nothing short of a miracle. So far we've found the phone to be snappy and responsive, but we're currently putting it through its paces. We'll have a full review shortly, but for now, feast your eyes on the photos below -- and start saving for that imminent US launch.

The dangers of late night Internet
Posted on October 22, 2009 | No CommentsCruising Craigslist usually brings up some interesting things. And this is definitely one of the most terrible and yet oddly funny posts I’ve seen in a while. When doing the Empire Strikes Back costume of Chewbacca, most people would just get a few C3PO parts and throw them over their back. One resident of Austin, Texas [...] -
Mobile Digital TV Standard Adopted in the U.S.A.
Posted on October 16, 2009 | No Comments
Late last night, around midnight if you really must know, the ATSC (aka the Advanced Television Systems Committee) ratified the A/153 ATSC Mobile DTV Standard which "defines the technical specifications necessary for broadcasters to provide new services to mobile and handheld devices using their digital television (DTV) transmissions."
In other words, digital TV will soon be playing on mobile handsets all across the U.S. of A.

Video: Jimmy Fallon Making Fun Of Billy Ray Cyrus Making Fun Of Miley Cyrus For Quitting Twitter
Posted on October 13, 2009 | No Comments
Continuing our ongoing coverage of the Miley Cyrus Twitter Crisis of 2009 (hint: she quit), here’s a video from last night’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon in which the host plays dress up as Billy Ray Cyrus to make his own rap video.
You’ll recall that Miley Cyrus quit Twitter (because her boyfriend told her to, or something). She then made a mock rap video about it. Now, Fallon is making fun of that video, Billy Ray, and Twitter all in one fell swoop. Impressive.
