Hi, LG: This is not a borderless TV
Posted on September 6, 2009 | No CommentsThis is pretty much the silliest thing I’ve seen ever. LG is touting borderless TVs. What does that mean? They’re making the border around he TV black and the front of the TV flat. LG: This doesn’t mean the TVs are borderless. It means they have a flat border. Borderless would mean you can’t see an [...] -

Android and LG’s GW620 “Eve” a match made in heaven
Posted on July 17, 2009 | No CommentsApparently, the guys over at NieuweMobiel like to get their kicks by poking around in random XML files on LG’s website. It doesn’t sound like the most exciting pastime in the world (mostly because it isn’t), but it looks like our Dutch phone junkie comrades have struck the proverbial gold: they’ve managed to unearth [...] -
The LG BL40 is real, is long
Posted on July 16, 2009 | No CommentsIf there were any doubts in your mind that the LG BL40 (otherwise known as “the longest phone in the entire world”) video that got out a few days ago was anything but real, let them be cast away. Pictures of the BL40, which may or may not be the new Chocolate (and might [...] -
Review: DS Lite Transformers kit from PDP
Posted on July 15, 2009 | No Comments
Short Version: Friends, this is the nerdiest and coolest Nintendo DS Lite case that a Transformers fan could ask for. What kid (12-year-old or 35-year-old) wouldn’t want their DS too look like Bumblebee or Megatron? Do you see the stylus that each set comes with? Pick one up for your kid or yourself. They’re only $20.

Apple Kills Everyone’s Buzz At Once: Tethering On AT&T Is Dead, Pre Blocked In iTunes
Posted on July 15, 2009 | No CommentsAnd yet another game of cat and mouse begins. Over the past 24 hours, Apple has released updates for both iTunes and the iPhone beta SDK. While both are seemingly minor on the feature front, each packs a bit of disappointment for those who had been using loopholes to their advantage. First off the bat was a [...] -

“Bowlingual”: Portable dog language translator (video)
Posted on July 13, 2009 | No Comments
Japanese toymaker Takara Tomy claims it has developed a device that can translate what a dog "says" into human language and emoticons in real time. And the so-called "Bowlingual" [JP ] isn't being marketed as a (pure) gag product.
Jointly developed with an acoustics research laboratory and a veterinarian, the Bowlingual works wirelessly (your dog must wear a wireless mic around the neck). Let the device catch noises made by your dog (transmission range: 10m) and it will analyze the "animal language" with a special algorithm before telling you on the LCD screen what was being "said".

Sony Ericsson’s Satio and Aino get handled, Remote Play makes the Aino PSP-like — minus the games
Posted on May 28, 2009 | No CommentsFolks are already starting to get a look at production versions (well, closer to production than at MWC, anyhow) of the Sony Ericsson Satio and its baby sister, the Aino -- and even if you're not a fan of the joint venture's wares, it's hard not to appreciate what it's brought to the table here. The Satio looks identical to its Idou doppelganger -- albeit now in three colors instead of two -- but the real news here is inside, where we're finally getting a look at Sony Ericsson's interpretation of Symbian^1 with a unique UI. Overall, it's looking "chunky" (and we mean that in a good way) with an entirely finger-friendly presentation -- a sharp, healthy departure from the UIQ platform that it just threw in the dumpster a few months back.
Though the Satio's higher end, it's actually the Aino that intrigues us more; in a way, this is the closest thing to a "PSP phone" that Sony Ericsson has ever produced, largely on account of its support for Sony Remote Play which funnels PlayStation 3-stored media content down over WiFi or your cellular connection. Sadly though, "media content" doesn't include games; Sony Ericsson is billing the phone strictly as a multimedia-heavy non-gaming phone, so calling it a PSP phone in practice would be a huge frickin' misnomer. The phone includes a dock that syncs media wirelessly to your PC when connected -- hot -- and from a distance, it seems to be just about the sexiest phone Sony Ericsson's ever made. It's not clear what carriers will be offering either of these, but as usual, we've got to bet against the North Americans.

Roger McNamee self-parodies his Palm Pre superlatives: “it eats iPhones for breakfast”
Posted on May 28, 2009 | No CommentsThe ever-quotable, perennially unkempt Roger McNamee of Elevation Partners fame indulged in a bit of self-parody in a mock-commercial screened at D7 before he and Jon Rubinstein took the stage. While incredibly entertaining, the video also acts as a bit of damage control for Roger, who infamously stated that there would be a massive and sudden exodus from the iPhone to the Pre once those original iPhone contracts are up. Palm naturally distanced itself and "clarified" the comments, but that doesn't seem to have dampened McNamee's spirit: in the video he calls the Pre, among other things, "better than Viagra." Unfortunately for McNamee, he might've been better served by a damage control video after his time on stage with Walt and Kara: his semi-sexist "It has a mirror on the back... there's never been a phone like this for women before" line -- not to mention a general disregard for sane conversation -- isn't winning him many points with the crowd. Video is after the break.Filed under: Cellphones, Handhelds
