Review: iStoragePro iT4UFER and a contest

iT4ESAStorage is cheap, and just keeps getting cheaper. I remember buying my first 250 megabyte hard drive, and paying just under a dollar per meg. Now we're approaching multi-terabyte drives at retail stores for extremely reasonable prices. The age old problem, though, is how to protect all that precious data. RAID solutions have been around for a long time, but the consumer-grade products haven't been all that great, and the commercial-grade products have been way too expensive. Things are starting to change, though, and the iStoragePro iT4UFER is a good indicator of what's to come. Read on for a complete review, and a chance to win a $100 Starbucks gift card!

  • What can the iPod nano FM tuner do for you?

What can the iPod nano FM tuner do for you?

Before you all say it at once, I know the Zune has had an FM tuner all along. But the new iPod nano just got one of its own and so FM is all of a sudden relevant again. A recent online survey by VisionCritical of 1,185 American adults shows that 66% have an active interest in the pause-and-rewind feature of the built-in FM radio. Plus, it's the third most popular feature of the iPod nano only after the new, larger screen and the video camera. But how many people will really use it?

Sony outs the beautiful LED-backlit ZX5 LCD TV

These new 46- and 52-inch Sony sets are loaded: 240Hz, edge-mounted LED backlighting, wireless media receiver, and they are deliciously thin. Right now they are only announced in Japan, but I’ll bet good money that Sony will announce and price the US-spec’d models this week at CEDIA. But until then, spend 30 seconds of your [...]

  • Is the Nokia Booklet 3G just an overpriced netbook? This promo video says so.

Is the Nokia Booklet 3G just an overpriced netbook? This promo video says so.

Everyone, you can breath easy, the Nokia Booklet 3G is here. It's got an Intel Atom, 120GB HDD, 1GB of RAM, WiFi, HDMI, and 3G. So why the hell does it cost so much? Nokia has set the price of the 3G model - is there a non-3G model? - at 600 Euros, which is roughly $853 USD. That's a lot for a netbook. Especially for one that's basically a cloned version of the Acer Aspire One 3G 10.1-inch. Even the official promo video doesn't present a strong case of what sets this netbook apart.

  • The Nokia N97 Mini is finally official, existence still in question

The Nokia N97 Mini is finally official, existence still in question

Well, look at that. The Nokia N97 Mini really does exist for some odd reason. The Mini is basically a N97 photocopied at 90%. The screen shrunk to 3.2-inches from 3.5, and the whole bezel is just a tad smaller. But it’s not like the original N97 was a hog. So we’re still wondering why [...]

WiFi-enabled BlackBerry 8530 headed to VZW

Hopefully Verizon has changed it tune for good on WiFi. Generally the carrier doesn’t allow WiFi-toting devices to be sold with a Verizon Logo affixed - there are a couple of small Winmo exceptions- but it seems that the BlackBerry 8530 will be 802.11 b/g enabled. Not only that, but it might be the first [...]

Penguin-powered bootable USB drive looks like actual penguin

penguin-usb-driveAs a Linux user, I'm tickled to see these new USB drives in the shape of an Emperor penguin. Not only are they super cute, they come pre-loaded with a bootable instance of Ubuntu 9.04! And if for some reason you don't like penguins, you can get some visceral pleasure by pretending to rip off the li'l bugger's head in order to access the USB jack inside.

  • Review: Casio EXILIM 5.1MP camera phone

Review: Casio EXILIM 5.1MP camera phone

Lets get a few details out of the way first. The Casio Exilim is one of the most expensive Verizon phones available at $279 with a 2-year agreement. Only the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro cost more. Not only that, the Exilim is loaded with a dated OS and is rather bulky. The only selling point that this phone has is the 5.1MP camera, so that's what I spent most of my time testing. I pitted the 5.1MP Casio Exilim against a 3.2MP BlackBerry Storm and 6.1MP Nikon D40. I would have to say that I'm impressed with the quality. It's better than the Storm and almost on par with the D40 in some of the photos. Check out the pics below to see what I mean.

    SwissMiniGun is World’s Smallest Revolver

The SwissMiniGun is officially the smallest gun in the world. Look at the picture on the right and it appears to be just a regular revolver, apart from the “oversized” trigger sticking out the bottom. One glance at the picture on the left, though, shows that it could easily be used as a key fob. But [...]

    Rumor: Nikon’s 2009-2010 roadmap

Nikon Rumors may or may not have Nikon’s 2009-2010 product roadmap, but we kind of hope what it’s the real thing. It’s loaded with six upcoming DSLRs and tons of lens, including the D3000 and D300s being announced on August 4th just like we thought. Then next year we should see the rumored D4 with [...]
