The odds that Apple will sell more than 1 million iPhone 4s today? Well, according to Bookmaker.com, you're looking at 50/50. Presumably these odds that into account that fact that the Apple hardware isn't as robust as you'd like to see!

EVO 4G gets 802.11n WiFi by changing two lines of code
Posted on June 23, 2010 | No CommentsThe EVO 4G has a lot of weight in the smartphone arena thanks to WiMAX and that 4.3-inch screen, but though its Broadcom BCM4329 silicon also technically supports 802.11n WiFi over 2.4GHz, the protocol was disabled for some reason. Thankfully it's just a matter of ten characters to enable greater throughput, as the fine folks at xda-developers recently discovered. Better yet, you don't even have to edit those characters yourself -- if your EVO's nice and rooted and the word "brick" doesn't inspire fear, you'll find instructions and flash-ready ZIP files at our source link.

Thinking of selling your Droid Incredible? If you're a mob-boss, peruser of the freaky-deaky, or someone who visits websites with sensitive data on their handset, you might want to hold off.
Turns out, the Droid Incredible is snapping shots of the sites you visit for use with the built-in Bookmarks widget. That, in itself, isn't a big deal; there are a dozen traces of every website you visit on just about any device, mobile or not. The unfortunate part is just how hard it is to get rid of these ones.

Financial Times: US antitrust regulators plan to investigate Apple’s mobile advertising practices

There's not a lot of details on this at the moment, but the Financial Times is reporting that US antitrust regulators plan to investigate Apple's mobile advertising practices to see whether they unfairly restrict rivals like Google and Microsoft. As you'll recall, Apple recently revised its rules on outside advertisers and, specifically, their ability to collect analytics on ads for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, effectively cutting out Google's AdMob in the process -- something the company's CEO has publicly complained about. What's next? Posted on June 5, 2010 | No CommentsIntel has managed to make Moorestown-based phones do an awful lot of things on stage. Multitask, scale photos sans lag, and automatically correct your grammar before it comes out of your mouth. But believe it or not, one thing we haven't seen the Aava Mobile-built reference design do is play the full PC version of World of Warcraft and / or Quake III (from within Moblin) for over an hour on a full charge. Well, until this week's Computex event. Peek a couple of videos just past the break if you're in disbelief, and trust us when we say that it had no issues keep the frames flowing at a comfortable clip. The future is bright, people.

BlackBerry Bold 9800 gets some glamour shots, OS 6 gets a 16 minute video walkthrough
Posted on June 5, 2010 | No CommentsThe verdict is still out on OS 6, but there's hardly any doubting the assured design and form factor that RIM has gone with for the BlackBerry Bold 9800 slider. Our latest look at the device comes courtesy of BlackBerry Times in China, who has what appears to be an early version of the device. They expect the smooth plastic back to be replaced by the leather look RIM favors on its higher end devices, but otherwise the unit looks to be pretty solid and far along. The Google-translated Chinese seems to confirm again that the screen is not SurePress. Not a lot of landmark news to be gleaned here, but we're mostly stoked about these delicious bokeh-filled shots of device -- it's really looking good, and the comparison shot with other recent BlackBerrys (check after the break) is rather helpful for sizing this thing up.

Dell Streak HDMI dock gets the hands-on treatment, kickstand-equipped case makes a cameo

We managed to get an early look at the HDMI dock for the Dell Streak way back in February courtesy of T3's Greek site, but the accessory is now finally official (if not widely available), and Laptop Magazine has come through with what appears to be the first proper hands-on. Of course, there's not exactly a lot to go hands-on with, but it seems that dock does indeed function as a dock, and it also thankfully has a USB port and a line-out in addition to that HDMI port. Perhaps just as notable, however, is a Streak case that Laptop has also managed to get its hands on, which has a built-in kickstand. Is this the production version of Project Natal?

This is interesting. Engadget's live at D8 where Microsoft is showing off Project Natal. The funny thing is that the hardware looks surprisingly polished, a lot more so than the previous versions we've seen. Everything from the paint scheme to design cues scream production unit. But why spoil all the fun when E3 is just over a week away -- unless Microsoft is showing off something a lot bigger than Natal. That's our guess.

The 5 best features of the HTC EVO 4G

The EVO 4G is a great phone with the notable drawback of its short battery life. But apparently a lot of you don't care judging by the comments on my full review. Fine by me. Even though it doesn't have the battery strength to make it through a day of moderate to heavy usage, there are still some serious advantages to this phone over others. Enough so that some buyers are probably going to camp out their Sprint Store this Friday. Here's my top five favorite features so far, including a few I didn't touch on at all in my review.

don'twant, so don't mind us while we inspect this new finding with extra caution. This particular Chinese online seller not only claims to have parts for the next-gen iPhone, but also one white face plate -- something not seen on iPhones thus far. While we drool over the thought of an all white Apple handheld, there are still questions to be answered here: the seller wasn't able to explain what that silver bit above the speaker is, nor have we seen white back plates to match this. Furthermore, we were given a "maybe" for a bulk order of 15 to 20 units, which is quite a lot for something that's not even out yet, but we were told over the phone that there's always a back door to Foxconn as long as you wave cash at someone. Not that you should engage in such risky business, plus this piece's authenticity will be revealed in about three weeks' time, anyway. One more shot after the break.

Google’s VOIP buying spree continues with Global IP Solutions offer
Posted on May 18, 2010 | No CommentsWe're not entirely sure what Google is up to, but we're inclined to think that there's an awful lot of voice over IP magic coming, with the company announcing the anticipated acquisition of another VOIP company. Back in November it acquired Gizmo5 for about $30 million, and now it has made a $68.2 million offer for Global IP Solutions. That company provides VOIP solutions for a number of clients, including Yahoo, and recently announced plans to release an Android library that would enable easy video conferencing in apps. We're guessing someone in Menlo Park liked what they saw and decided to bake it right into the OS, but that's pure, unfounded speculation. This offer still needs to be approved by 90% of Global IP's shareholders but, since that $68.2 million represents a nearly 30 percent boost in the company's stock price last week, we don't think there will be any problem there -- but there we go speculating again.
