Swype psyched to be on Droid X, fifty total devices by the end of 2010
Posted on June 24, 2010 | 1 CommentLove it or lump it, looks like Swype is making inroads into the mobile space. We've seen it on a few handsets already, and we know how eager the company is to get on the iPhone, but so it doesn't look like Apple's ready to bite. In the meantime, it seems that the company is more than happy to make due with the likes of HTC, Samsung, and Motorola -- the latter having gone with Swype for the Droid X. According to Swype CEO Mike McSherry, this is the company's biggest coup yet, though certainly not the last -- he says to look for the app on some fifty phones by .Swype psyched to be on Droid X, fifty total devices by the end of 2010 originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 24 Jun 2010 14:19:00 EST. Apple Store app arrives in Apple App Store
Posted on June 15, 2010 | No CommentsThis is one of those things that makes you wonder why it hadn't been done already. Apple's just unleashed an Apple Store application for its iDevices designed to pretty much give you the online Apple Store experience -- but perhaps without the crazy on-again, off-again antics of this morning. All that's required is a device with iOS version 3 or above, and you'll be able to read reviews, locate local brick and mortar Stores, check out new and featured products, and -- importantly -- buy or pre-order the latest goodies Steve and co have bestowed upon these lands. Alas, we tried to do just that with the iPhone 4 and were met with the familiar "we'll be back soon" message. So the app might work, but Apple's store is still struggling.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
P.S. - The app looks to be US-only for now. Sorry world, Apple doesn't love you enough.Continue reading Apple Store app arrives in Apple App Store

Post-it Index Cards: A ray of light in our otherwise dreary day
Posted on June 14, 2010 | No Comments
You can tell when someone is in love with office products when they actually "test" them in real life situations. Take OfficeSupplyGeek's look at the Post-It index cards he found at Staples. These mysterious cards can be applied to walls, wood, and dry erase boards and are, for all intents and purposes, basically index cards with stickiness on them. But aren't they so much more?
Best of all was his testing regimen. It included, but was not limited to, removing and replacing the cards over 50 times. How many times would you have tested these things? 5? 7? I know, right?

Der Vuvuzela-Filter: Remove that annoying hum from World Cup games
Posted on June 14, 2010 | No Comments
If you've watched any of the World Cup this year you'll have noticed the endless, high-pitched drone of the Vuvuzela. It's basically a really annoying horn.
Anyway, a German engineer has created a Vuvuzela Filter that takes the ambient noise and removes it from an audio track. It's pretty complex - and in German - but if I watched soccer at all I'd love this to be an in-line hardware box for the removal of noise.

Sony prototypes pressure-sensitive tactile touchscreen, hopes to use it ASAP
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No CommentsSony may come up with some far-out ideas, but the company insists this one's a bit closer to home: it's a LCD touchscreen with force sensing resistors and piezoelectric actuators that can detect how much pressure is applied and vibrate the panel respectively. Tech-On was rocking the scene at Open House 2010, and reports that the Cover Flow-like interface shuffled icons faster the harder a demonstrator pressed down, an interesting UI quirk in and of itself. Though the publication sadly didn't get to test out the tactile feedback for themselves, Sony said commercialization might not be too far off -- when asked about that telling Sony Ericsson logo, the company asserted that it'd like to see the tech in mobile phones "as soon as possible." We'd love to hold them to that, but unfortunately the applied pressure mechanic is just a prototype at this point.Sony prototypes pressure-sensitive tactile touchscreen, hopes to use it ASAP originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 09 Jun 2010 01:51:00 EST. PSA: Samsung Wave shipping with virus
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No Comments
Are you one of the Samsung fans that pre-ordered the Bada-powered Wave? Have you plugged it into your Windows computer yet? STOP NOW! FOR THE LOVE OF SAUERKRAUT, DON'T PLUG IT IN!
Mere moments after our joyous announcement proclaiming the availability of the Samsung Wave to our friends in the EU, news is trickling in that the MicroSD card included with the phone is infected with a virus.

As much as I'd love to claim the scoop is ours, the LA Times are actually the ones who got the word on what the first Natal games are going to be. All we have is a few names, but they sound promising.
