Posted on June 23, 2010 | No CommentsIOS on the next iMac? That's the rumor going around this morning. The deal is that Apple wants to bring touch controls to its desktop offerings, and will use the next iMac revision to test the waters a bit. So, you'll have your standard Mac OS X installation, but then when you activate “touch screen mode,” you'll switch over to iOS.

iPhone/iPad Wi-Fi Sync author goes (almost) legit
Posted on June 4, 2010 | No Comments
You know when an app company is serious when they send out a press release. I've gotten more releases about durfy little apps that I know what to do with, but this one is special. Sent to us by Greg, the author of Wi-Fi Sync, it basically says "This is great and new, but to get it you have to hack your iPhone and give money to the Cydia store."
As far as I can tell, this is the first formal press release for a jailbroken iPhone/iPad app ever. While it's no big deal to have a press release on PR Newswire - anyone can do it - it's fascinating to see the Cydia store be given a jolt of authority with Greg's move.

Posted on May 21, 2010 | No CommentsAnd I thought my new monitor was fancy! (It certainly cost enough...) Here we have a plain ol' MacBook Pro using a series of 28 projectors to create a 22-megapixel display. That works out to 7168x3072. Borderline insane, yes.

Plex for Mac OS X adds hardware h.264 video decoding
Posted on April 28, 2010 | No CommentsExciting news from Plex, the media center for Mac OS X that won my heart a long time ago. The devs have announced that they've integrated Apple's new video decode acceleration framework into the latest build. In English, that means all h.264-encoded video—and there's a lot of it out there—can be sent to your GPU for decoding, giving your CPU a bit more breathing room. It should make for significantly better 1080p video performance.

China’s knockoff iPads have no one fooled… or do they?
Posted on April 26, 2010 | No CommentsPretty sure China plays by its own rules when it comes to pirated versus non-piated goods, but this story's still worth a chuckle. Ever since Apple said that it would delay international launches of the iPad in order to placate U.S. demand— the magical and revolutionary device is flying off the shelves, it seems—Chinese manufacturers have flooded their internal market with iPad knockoff after iPad knockoff. They're slightly less expensive than the real thing, but the important part is that they're available right now. Not bona fide, but bona found. I love how that makes no sense whatsoever.
