Review: Canon Color ImageClass MF8050Cn all-in-one printer

There is a code to which a cowboy cleaves. He never shoots first, he's always kind to ladies, and he never buys more printer than he can handle. While I can't speak for those out on the lone prairie, I can report that the 52-pound ImageClass MF8050Cn by Canon may be the heaviest printer I've had in my office to date. This isn't a printer for scrap-booking or creating beautiful photomontages of your grandmother. The color printing is delightfully sharp but the speed and on-board features - the lack of a picture preview screen, for example - makes this an office printer through and through. It also has a built-in copier and fax machine if you're into that stuff. It also scans from PCs or Macs. Because we're basically talking about a large job printer here you won't be printing many photos on this printer. However, it has excellent color reproduction and is just fine for color prints. A slight concern: the "media capacity" is 150 sheets on this puppy, which means you'll have to refill it every few if you're doing a few dozen pages per day.

Munster inhales fumes of prophecy, foresees Apple TV TV

Gene Munster of 1313 Mockingbird Lane and Piper Jaffray is positing that because the Apple TV isn’t doing so well that Apple will soon sell a TV with Apple TV features built-in, an idea so ludicrous that it caused me to spit out my Metamucil. Let’s look at his reasoning: the Apple TV is “losing ground” [...]

Review: Epson Workforce 600 All-In-One Printer

The last Epson printer I reviewed, the Artisan 800, was a work of art. The Workforce 600 is the art of work. See what I did there? To be clear, there is little to say about besides the speeds and feeds. A printer is a printer is a printer, no matter how printer manufacturers like to [...]

Step back. Western Digital might have a real contender in the LaCie LaCinema Classic Bridge media player and it actually supports 1080p content. Live Sky TV coming to Xbox 360 in UK and Ireland, hooligan avatars to follow

US Americans, go ahead and enjoy your Netflix streaming over your Xbox 360, Brits are about to land a deal that'll put live football, TV, and films over Microsoft's broadband-enabled console -- a first live television service for Xbox 360 anywhere. Beginning in Autumn, Xbox Live subscribers in the UK and Ireland will gain access to Sky's Sky Player service that includes subscription-based live, on-demand, and pay-per-view access to your favorite shows without the need for an additional set-top-box or satellite dish. Unfortunately, specifics like prices and channel line-up have not been announced, though content is expected to be similar to the Sky Player service already available on Macs and PCs. Of interest, Xbox Live users will be able to watch sporting content together virtually and sling insults and taunts at one-another via avatars or virtual personas. Something that will lead to slurring songs in a fit of semi-social inebriation or fisticuffs, depending on the score.

  • Psystar files for bankruptcy, anonymous creditors to be outed

Psystar files for bankruptcy, anonymous creditors to be outed

We have mixed feelings about the news that Psystar is going under. On the one hand, it's wonderful having somebody attempt to create powerful, expandable Macs for cheap, on the other hand the company has been generally abrasive to the grassroots hacker community its work is based on, and pretty bombastic when it comes to Apple and "the law." But hey, everybody needs to make a profit, even companies being sued into oblivion by Apple, and the news of Psystar filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection has interesting legal implications. Not only does it stall Apple's case against the company -- while implying a possibly inevitable defeat -- but Apple has long posited that a mystery investor behind Psystar has nefarious aims, and the bankruptcy hearing on June 5th will name the creditors behind the company. Our fingers are crossed for a "Dan Brown"-style conspiracy, but we're prepared to be "post-2002 Tom Hanks"-style disappointed.
