There will be a Mass Effect movie. Will Lost’s Matthew Fox play Commander Shepard?
Posted on May 25, 2010 | No CommentsIt's takes a special type of nerd to read a video game's novelization, and I'm none too proud to say that I recently started reading the Mass Effect novel. But there's a certain quiet dignity in reading a novelization that simply isn't present when sitting at the multiplex (or downloading the Blu-ray rip, as it were) watching a movie. Get ready: EA has sold the movie rights to Mass Effect, and it's gone to Legendary Pictures, the same people behind The Dark Knight, Watchmen, and The Hangover. So there's hope the movie won't be total dross.

OnLive strikes deal with BT in the UK, brings streaming video game service across the pond
Posted on May 13, 2010 | No CommentsOnLive, the streaming video game service that threatens to change the way people perceive gaming, has signed a deal with with British Telecommunications. The deal means that Britons will be able to play games like Mass Effect 2 and Assassin's Creed II over their broadband connection (and it also means that BT will buy a small stake in the company). No UK launch date has been announced. The U.S. launch is still on schedule for June 17.

Avatar fast becoming the most pirated Blu-ray movie of all time
Posted on April 29, 2010 | No CommentsCall me crazy, but wasn't the point of Avatar to go see it in 3D on the big screen? Otherwise, why bother? Be that as it may, Avatar is on track to hold the distinction of being the most pirated Blu-ray release of all time. Nice job, guys!

U.S. military launches unmanned X-37B spacecraft. Too bad it refuses to tell us what it’s for!
Posted on April 23, 2010 | No CommentsIt's all a bit like Mass Effect. The U.S. Air Force successfully launched the X-37B unmanned spacecraft yesterday, but the question that nobody knows the answer to: what's it for? The Air Force refuses to say what the X-37B's mission on beyond something along the lines "we wanted to see if it works." OK, but do you plan on doing with it? "Sorry, classified." Neat.

Bravo to Epic Games for porting Unreal Engine 3 to the iPhone
Posted on March 10, 2010 | No CommentsDon't get mad at me—I wanted to go to GDC, but The Man said no. So now we're relying on CNET to bring us word of Epic Games' efforts to bring the Unreal Engine to the iPhone. You may not have even played Unreal for several years, but plenty of big games are based on the engine. Mass Effect and BioShock are based on versions of the engine, as is EA's upcoming Medal of Honor. Just think: playing Unreal on your iPhone. It's almost... unreal.

Apparently shady cable companies are still trying to con people in 2183, too.
Posted on February 9, 2010 | No CommentsFrom Mass Effect 2, “Customer Service. Sweeping up the store. Carefully explaining things to the technologically illiterate. It’s stunning how many people think light moves faster through expensive fiber optic cables than it does through cheap ones.” [via Consumerist] -
FarCry, Far Cry 2 $15 bundle on Steam this weekend
Posted on February 5, 2010 | No CommentsStupid Steam, making me spend money whenI had no intention of doing so. This weekend’s deal is the FarCry collection, which includes FarCry and FarCry 2: Fortune’s Edition (includes DLC and other bonus items). Where were you when the Xbox 360 version of BioShock 2 leaked? (Because it just did, you see.)
Posted on February 4, 2010 | No CommentsFive days. We’re a whopping five days away from the game’s official release date, but BioShock 2, the second truly big game of the year (the other being Mass Effect 2) has now leaked. Well, the Xbox 360 version, that is. It’s found where these type of things can be found, and I only mention [...] -
The Alienware M11x netbook gets priced, dated and detailed
Posted on February 1, 2010 | No Comments
The Alienware M11x is an odd duck. The company calls it a netbook, but it's packing a Core 2 Duo CPU and 1GB NVIDIA GT 335M GPU. Even the 720p-capable 11.6-inch screen doesn't exactly screen netbook. Then there is the target $899 price that just knocks it the hell out of the netbook realm. So, yeah, let's just call the M11x what it is: an ultra-portable.
