Samsung Captivate is AT&T’s version of the Galaxy S, launching ‘in the coming months’
Posted on June 17, 2010 | 1 CommentSo much for the "AT&T refuses to release high-end Android devices" conspiracy theory, eh? T-Mobile had been widely pegged as Samsung's launch partner for the Galaxy S in the States, but AT&T stole its thunder this morning by announcing the Captivate featuring a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, Android 2.1, 7.2Mbps HSPA, and a 1GHz Hummingbird processor. If it sounds more or less like the European Galaxy S, well, your intuitions are spot-on -- AT&T actually describes the Captivate as "a Galaxy S smartphone." As for media, you can expect a 5 megapixel camera with 720p recording, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and 16GB of onboard storage combined with support for external storage for a total of up to 32GB; you also have 802.11n WiFi and a variety of built-in apps (some of which you'll want, others you won't) like Swype and AT&T Navigator. Unfortunately, this is a little while out yet -- AT&T is only saying that it'll launch "in the coming months" for an undisclosed price -- but we're at least stoked that AT&T's finally fully entrenched in the Android superphone game. Follow the break for the full press release.Samsung Captivate is AT&T's version of the Galaxy S, launching 'in the coming months' originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 17 Jun 2010 12:01:00 EST. iPhone KIRFs up to 4.3-inch screen, claims invincibility from haters
Posted on June 17, 2010 | No CommentsHey, just because Apple won't make one doesn't mean you can't have a 4.3-inch iPhone. This here product of Chinese ingenuity offers you as much real estate as "the king of HTC HD2" while also throwing in both digital and analog TV tuners into the mix. When you factor in the dual SIM compatibility, 2 megapixel camera, WiFi, and removable back cover, it's enough for anyone to agree that "even a popular niche iPhone 4G had to step aside!"Continue reading iPhone KIRFs up to 4.3-inch screen, claims invincibility from haters

Motorola Droid 2 fully exposed?
Posted on June 10, 2010 | No CommentsAnd finally, the puzzle pieces are coming together. There's been a lot of confusion the past few weeks about these two new models for Verizon in Motorola's pipeline, but by all accounts, this seems to be the A955 Droid 2 in its entirety -- the true successor to the original Droid, of course, and a distinctly different product than the more slate-like Xtreme. It looks like Moto has killed off the Droid's major pain points, giving the new model a more tactile keyboard and eliminating the nearly useless d-pad; the shiny bezel around the top half is a matter of personal opinion, but we don't think we mind it from the blurry shots we've seen.
As specs go, we're looking at a faster 750MHz OMAP core -- probably similar to the 720MHz silicon quoted in the XT720's data -- along with a 3.7-inch display, 8GB of internal storage paired with an 8GB microSD card in the box, and a 5 megapixel camera. What's missing is an HDMI port and Froyo -- current test units are said to be running 2.1, so hopefully we'll see a 2.2 upgrade in the near term. So, Droid owners: is this the golden ticket to get you to shell out another couple hundred dollars? As a bonus, follow the break for alleged video of the Droid 2's boot sequence, which shows a reworked version of the scary red droid eye we're accustomed to.Continue reading Motorola Droid 2 fully exposed?

Motorola Droid 2 gets some proper spy shots (and spy video!)
Posted on June 10, 2010 | No Comments
Take that keyboard-only shot of the Droid 2 we saw last week, and the blurry face shot we saw yesterday. Put'em together. What do you get? Proper, mostly blur-free spyshots of the next Droid, keyboard and all.
