The “Get a Mac” Ads are gone
Posted on May 21, 2010 | No CommentsFriends, it happened. Those long-running ads featuring John Hodgman and Justin Long as PC and Mac, are over. They have been replaced by the “Why you’ll love a Mac” page featuring pictures of Macs and a number of roll-over peans to Mac’s greatness including “It’s designed to be a better computer” and “It runs Office [...] -
LG’s $100 Ally crashing Verizon stores on May 20th, pre-orders start tomorrow (update: now with specs)
Posted on May 12, 2010 | No CommentsWe had a hunch that LG's Android 2.1-based Ally would see its first customers on May 20th, and Verizon Wireless has finally opened up and confirmed as much this morning. The Iron Man 2-infused smartphone -- which we spent some time with yesterday -- will be available in all VZW stores beginning May 20th, with pre-orders going live for phone and web customers tomorrow. We've already given you the rundown when it comes to specs (they're after the break for those with memories shorter than their shoelaces), but now we're able to confirm that it'll sell for $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a new two-year contract. A well-specced Android smartphone for under a Benjamin? Not bad, LG.
Update: Nothing in particular to write home about, but LG has just unveiled the Ally's nearly complete spec sheet. Video: N64 emulator running on hacked iPad
Posted on April 13, 2010 | No CommentsApparently the iPad has been hacked. Who knew? And what’s the first you do with a hacked iPad? You run emulators, of course! This here is a video showing an N64 emulator running Super Smash Bros and Super Mario 64. It looks good, but the sound—always a tricky thing for emulators to nail—is a [...] -
Evernote: an iPad app update that makes sense
Posted on April 5, 2010 | No Comments
I was able to avoid most of the iPad hype this weekend by first sitting through the Henry Rollins Frequent Flyer tour, and then going to my in-laws for the Christian celebration of Easter. Along the way, I got a number of emails about apps that were updated for, or simply compatible with, the iPad. Most of these app updates were underwhelming. The only one that really caught my attention, though, was Evernote. I've been using Evernote on my iPhone for quite some time, and it's quickly become an indispensable addition to my life. The new iPad version -- still free -- offers at least one nifty new iPad-specific feature.

Microsoft to kill Xbox Live support for original Xbox games on April 15
Posted on February 5, 2010 | No CommentsMicrosoft will kill Xbox Live support for orignial Xbox games. Rumor has is that this is being done to increase the numbers of friends you can have on Xbox (360) Live. Right now it's at 100 people—a limit imposed by old Xbox architecture—, but clearly you need more.

HTC rolls out ‘digital picture enhancement’ update for HD2
Posted on December 10, 2009 | No CommentsWe like cheery, pink-hued pics as much as the next guy, but let's be honest: when you're snapping a candid shot from your phone, you want that cherished memory to be preserved in color that's as accurate as possible. Fortunately, HTC has cut an update for its afflicted HD2 that solves the camera issues it's been having -- which is especially good news considering the dreadful theories that it might be a hardware issue -- and we've never seen language as flowery as this to describe a bugfix:
Indeed, HTC. Indeed."This update for HTC HD2 delivers clear digital picture quality like never before. Living up to the name of "HD" this phone and its twin LED flash will take beautiful pictures for you to cherish your memories. Displayed in brilliant vibrant colors on its 4.3 inch screen, HTC HD2 camera will delight you."

Starcaft 2 Video: Lost Temple battle
Posted on October 19, 2009 | No CommentsThis video brings back terrible memories of me getting massacred. I used to play quick Starcraft pickup games during boring MCSE lectures back in school. There was this guy in my class that happened to be a bigger nerd than I and the only way he knew how to win was with massive Dragooon armies. [...] -
Little clip-on MP3 player looks familiar, costs $12 today only
Posted on October 12, 2009 | No Comments
I’ve been shuffling all these memories through my brain, trying to figure out where I’ve seen this MP3 player before. Shuffle though I may, I can’t seem to shuffle the correct memory back into place despite some pretty intense shuffling.

Tokyo’s Gundam statue is history, but you can now buy a 1/60 replica
Posted on September 11, 2009 | No Comments
The giant Gundam statue that has been protecting Tokyo for a couple of months is gone, but now you have the chance to bring back memories in the form of a smaller version you can put in your living room. The original 1/1 statue stood 20m tall, while the replika [JP] is 1/60th of that size (30cm) and weighs 4kg.
