iPhone 4’s yellow spot issue goes away with a bit of time?
Posted on June 24, 2010 | No CommentsWe're starting to hear a few reports of the dreaded yellow spots disappearing from the iPhone 4's display after a day or so of use. Interestingly, someone posting on the AppleInsider forums seems to know why:
If this can be trusted, it's very good news for those afflicted -- though hopefully Apple will keep to its usually painless replacement policy for defective phones either way. We are still seeing some mentions of the spots sticking around, fading in and out based on the heat of the phone, but we'll give it another day or two to really see how much of a problem is going to be. Let us know how yours fares.Apple is using a bonding agent called Organofunctional Silane Z-6011 to bond the layers of glass. Apparently, Apple (or more likely Foxconn) is shipping these products so quickly that the evaporation process is not complete. However, after one or two days of use, especially with the screen on, will complete the evaporation process and the yellow "blotches" will disappear. How do I know? I was involved in pitching Z-6011 to Apple.

Y’all spent 4.8 million hours playing Google Pac-Man

If we convert those lost man-hours to dollars and cents, then you can say the U.S. economy has lost slightly more than $120 million because of Pac-Man.

Pantech P9020 packs touch, QWERTY, cute into one package

Think again, because this Pantech that just hit the FCC looks like something we'll probably see at retail in the next few months. The so-called P9020 (we're sure it'll get a much snazzier name by the time you can buy it) has a 2 megapixel camera behind a full touchscreen and a full QWERTY slide, perfect for those rugrats in desperate need of a 100-plus wpm rating on the text circuit. This sucker's got 850 / 1900MHz WCDMA on board, ripe for use on AT&T; the carrier's got a history of collaborating with Pantech, anyhow, and there are mentions of AT&T services in the user's manual filed with the FCC documentation -- so yeah, we pretty much know where this thing's going. With the Quickfire's reputation sullied since it took on a far-too-literal name, this seems like a fitting successor, does it not?

Huge stash of HTC Android codenames found within 2.1 ROM
Posted on December 3, 2009 | No CommentsYou know that leaked HTC Sense ROM with Android 2.1 underneath? Well, somebody did some digging and found a wild stack of HTC Android handset codenames buried within. It starts in the realm of the familiar, with mentions of Dragon, Passion, Dream and Hero, but then it starts to get a little wild. Here's the full list: Bahamas, Bravo, DesireC, Dragon, Dream, Espresso, Halo, HeroCT, HeroC, Hero, Huangshan, Incredible, Legend, Liberty, Memphis, Paradise, PassionC, Passion, Sapphire and Supersonic. Pretty wild, right? There's no telling what exactly this list implies, other than the fact that Passion and Dragon are indeed on the books, and that HTC's naming department can really let the superlatives fly, but we're sure all will be made clear over the next year or two.

Sony Ericsson looking ready to come clean with Android-powered Rachael on November 3

It could be argued that Sony Ericsson owes the world some love after it built up its last event only to introduce a single, solitary A2DP headset, but we might finally get what's coming to us in just a few days' time. It looks like November 3 is the date SE has chosen to unleash the first volley in its Android strategy on the world, likely the XPERIA X3 (or X10, or whatever the heck they decide to call it) with that wild Rachael UI that we've been tracking for a few months. How do we know? Well, it does line up with the latest and greatest rumors -- but more importantly, digging into the event page's HTML source reveals several mentions of Rachael by name, so... yeah, that's pretty much a lock. Should the unannounced Dragon and Sholes / Droid both be shaking in their boots already?
