SteelSeries asks: You know the goody bag given out at the end of fancy events?
Posted on January 26, 2010 | No Comments
Jimin-with-the-big-FLAC-collection and I met with one of the SteelSeries guys today. It's funny: you think you understand where a company's coming from, but then you sit down and actually talk to them and it's like, “Wow, OK, you guys are pretty cool.” So to the people who will walk out of Sunday's Grammy Awards with one of those fancy gift bags you always hear about, I can say this: you'll probably enjoy the SteelSeries headphones you find in there.

Look, up in the sky. It’s 3 more Iranian satellites.
Posted on January 22, 2010 | No CommentsIt's your daily space (Space?) update. The subject today: Iran, a country we in the United States are programmed to hate (I've never met an Iranian, but I'm sure they're friendly people), may well launch three new satellites in the near future. Be afraid, I guess.

Kensington’s new universal laptop charger, she is wonderfully tiny
Posted on January 7, 2010 | No Comments
Just met with Kensington here at CES and they’ve got a universal notebook charger coming out next month that uses 30% less energy than conventional adapters and is, perhaps more importantly, very nicely sized at 4.5" x 2.2" x 0.8" – the photos don’t quite do it justice. I thought it was a larger external backup battery for a cell phone at first.

Want to connect your iPhone and Bluetooth keyboard? There’s a (jailbroken) app for that (Update: video!)
Posted on December 24, 2009 | No CommentsThe wait has been long, but now there's finally a means by which to connect your dear, yet almost buttonless, iPhone or iPod touch to a Bluetooth keyboard for some more intense finger tapping action. The project that delivered us this teasing video back in February has at long last reached the application stage, where simple commoners like us can use it to synergize our gear -- provided we've had the wherewithal to free it from Cupertino's overbearing clutches first. The BTstack Keyboard app is now available in exchange for $5 at the Cydia store, so if you want to be the first to write a bestseller on his or her iDevice, there's no time like the present.
Update: We've done the inevitable and had a quick play with the app ourselves. Pairing our iPhone and keyboard was a veritable cinch, and we were met by delightfully rapid responsiveness throughout, whether using it in Safari, composing text missives, or jotting those novella notes down. You should note that command, cut, copy, paste, and highlighting functions are not yet active, and then hurry along past the break to see a video demo.Want to connect your iPhone and Bluetooth keyboard? BlackBerry, meet TD-SCDMA: RIM partners with China Mobile
Posted on December 8, 2009 | No Comments
Enterprising Chinese have had access to BlackBerrys for some time now, but they've been met with limited sales for many of the same reasons that internationally successful products often fail in China: high prices, cheap clones, and a general lack of understanding of the local market's needs and behaviors. RIM, like any smart manufacturer, would love to find a way to effectively tap into the market, though -- and they're trying to make headway today on news that they've partnered with number one carrier China Mobile on customized devices. By "customized," we mean that these bad boys will support TD-SCDMA, which is China Mobile's proprietary 3G tech -- probably the only carrier in the world that could get away with that, thanks to its nine-figure subscriber count -- and will be offered through local distributor Digital China, whose market expertise RIM is hoping to capitalize. The silver bullet here might be the fact that China Mobile has committed to subsidizing the handsets; China is a huge prepaid market, but if they can get 'em cheap enough, they could have a shot.BlackBerry, meet TD-SCDMA: RIM partners with China Mobile originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Tue, 08 Dec 2009 21:33:00 EST. Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn back with more EFX magic
Posted on September 29, 2009 | No Comments
My favoritest guy who plays who I've met recently, Jack Conte, has put together a nice version of Single Ladies by Beyonce with Nataly Dawn. While he and Nataly don't dress up in leotards and heels - they didn't get a huge budget for this - they do involve a Polaroid camera and a bowl of Coco Puffs. Great fun all around.
