This Microsoft store is trying too hard
Posted on November 17, 2009 | No CommentsThis is embarrassing. Not only are the Microsoft Stores a clear copy of Apple Stores, but now the employees are trying to be spontaneous and stir up customer reactions with a weird bastardization of Improv Anywhere. -
Thousands visit the Microsoft Store in Mission Viejo, thousands more wish they had
Posted on October 30, 2009 | No Comments
"Dewey defeats Truman." "Ford to City: Drop Dead." "1,000-plus people crowd new Microsoft Store." Great headlines are rarely forgotten and they are made all the greater by the their cultural import. To wit: Microsoft's new store in Mission Viejo was a rousing success, bringing 1,000 sleepy-eyed Mission Viejoians out to see people in blue and yellow shirts. In fact, it was so popular the American Eagle Outfitters store in the Shops at Mission Viejo mall was empty. Empty, friends. Not since the great Taco Bell grease fire of ought-one has the AEO gone empty.

Microsoft Store PC’s won’t have bloatware
Posted on October 28, 2009 | No CommentsIn an ironic twist, it’s coming to light that computers purchased from the Microsoft retail stores will not contain the ‘trialware’ that was typically included in new PC’s. This answers one of the criticisms that Apple users typically had about new PC’s. This has been confirmed by both employees and witnesses. Microsoft has stated that the [...] -

Posted on October 22, 2009 | No Comments
Coinciding with the worldwide debut of Windows 7 and the launch of physical retail stores throughout the world, Microsoft has revamped its online store as well.
The news comes from Trevin Chow, Senior Lead Program Manager for Microsoft Store.
Big surprise: the revamped online storefront features some new categories (including ‘Computers’!), so you can now go there to buy Windows 7 PCs as well as accessories and even third-party software like Adobe Photoshop and Nero 9.

In yo’ face, Apple: Microsoft poaching Apple retail store talent with higher pay
Posted on September 22, 2009 | No CommentsMan, things are hotting up in the Microsoft vs. Apple feud. The latest news is that, yeah, not only is Microsoft planning on, well, ripping off Apple's retail store model wholesale, but it also plans to hire Apple store employees. Microsoft has offered Apple store managers “significant raises,” and offered to cover any and all moving expenses. For the record, I'd be willing to work in the Microsoft retail store on Neptune if the company offered to pay my moving expenses!

Wanna work in a Microsoft retail store?
Posted on August 21, 2009 | No Comments
You say no one is hiring right now? Blah! Microsoft is. Well, for its new retail locations at least. Right now there are spots available in the first two locations: Scottsdale, AZ and Mission Viejo, CA. I'm guessing that you better hurry up and submit your resume if you wanna work at these stores. Chances are that MS will get tons of applicants from geeks more qualified than you. But I have a question: Do you think that working at an Apple store previously will help or hurt your resume? Seriously, I'm asking. Sound off in the comments.

Daily Crunch: Club Bill Edition
Guys. We need to make a logo for the new Microsoft stores. Yeah, heck if I know what they'll sell there. Probably Windows. So let's start with a Windows logo. Do a Google Image Search. Damn. That's ugly. Ok, well, we've got to do something. Splat-C Splat-V right into Photoshop. Good. Make it really concrete. Like a square. Ok. Cool. Now make it look like a Window. Ok. So put it next to the Cinnabon logo. Do they clash? No. Ok. How about Spencer's Gifts? Good. Good. Nice. Ok. So make it look kind of like a Pottery Barn logo but like better. Let's put some pastel in there. A little more. Got it.
