TV Guide spins its own Android app
Posted on June 10, 2010 | No Comments
Having already taken on the iPhone last year, TV Guide has turned its attention to Android with a new mobile app developed in cooperation with software house Roundbox. By all accounts, it's your run-of-the-mill TV listing grid, though TV Guide injects some "breaking entertainment news, scoops, episode recaps and daily TV hot lists" just to spice things up a bit. We tried to put it through its paces on a Froyo-equipped Nexus One here but it just kept crashing once we selected our provider, so your mileage may vary. Follow the break for TV Guide's full press release.Continue reading TV Guide spins its own Android app

Google no longer investigating shoddy 3G on the Nexus One
Posted on April 22, 2010 | No Comments
What's that you say? Your Nexus One can't hold a 3G signal worth a damn?
Bummer, dude! In a response to the angry masses demanding a OTA fix to rid them of their woes, Google employee Ry Guy has disclosed that they're no longer "investigating further engineering improvements".

Help Key: Everything you need to know about the iPad
Posted on April 3, 2010 | No CommentsWhen will I be able to get one? If you hit the stores, I suspect your local Apple store may have some in stock. This isn’t iPhone level hysteria. If you order one now on-line, though, you won’t get one via UPS until April 12. If I go today, will I still be able to get one? Call [...] -
Infinity Ward defending the cost of MW2’s DLC
Posted on March 25, 2010 | No Comments
To say we were a tad flabbergasted that Modern Warfare 2's 5 map pack DLC costs $15 is about right. We weren't exactly outraged. It's just a video game after all and really doesn't matter that much. But $15 is a bit much for five maps with two of the recycled from previous Call of Duty games. Infinity Ward's Creative Strategist Rob Bowling disagrees. He calls it an investment. Well, Creative Strategist is just code for Public Relations so he kind of has to say that.

The Road Train: taking drafting to a whole new level
Posted on March 5, 2010 | No Comments
So we all know that drafting increases fuel efficiency. Heck, I even saw an episode of MythBusters where they proved that following a semi suicidally close will increase your mileage dramatically. Of course, drafting is dangerous, stupid, and the risk vs. reward just isn't there. Well, what if it was? Scientists in Europe are working on a system that would make drafting safe. Get ready to ride the road train.

DIY: Motorcycle cowling increase mileage, decrease sex appeal, exponentially
Posted on January 28, 2010 | No Comments
This particular DIY project makes sense. It's been proven that in order to increase the MPG on your motorcycle (or scooter in this case), all you need to do it add a cowling. Cyclists use this concept in increase speed, the solar powered cars use this, it makes sense. That still doesn't mean that you should do it, at least, not in this color.

Mythbusters test golf ball effect on real car
Posted on October 23, 2009 | No Comments
It's almost like someone got their Top Gear in my Mythbusters lately. First the duct tape holding up a car, and now the 'golf ball' effect on mileage. So what exactly does happen when you cover a car with clay, and then dimple it like a golf ball?

EPA neither confirms nor denies the Chevy Volt’s claimed 230 MPG
Posted on August 11, 2009 | No Comments
I, and many of you, had a bunch of questions when GM announced that under the new EPA guidelines, the Chevy Volt will earn 230 MPG in urban driving conditions. After all the EPA hasn't tested the Chevy Volt yet and GM was just going off the new criteria. Urban drivers could very well get 230 MPG if they only drive 40 miles a day, but once they go over that and the on-board 1.4 L gasoline generator kicks in, that mileage will drop quickly to a more familiar range. Well, the EPA released a very patriotic statement to Edumnds that doesn't say a whole lot unfortunately.

Review: iPhone 3G S, the best phone out there, but power users should wait it out
Posted on June 22, 2009 | No CommentsFirst, an anecdote: when the iPhone first launched in 2007 I took it on a tour of Central Europe, namely Budapest and Warsaw. Communism had just fallen and the dreams of these benighted nations were dashed. But as I pulled the iPhone from its protective cozy, the eyes of those present were filled with hope [...] -
Travel Honey GPS functions as a homing device, photo tagger, party favor
Posted on May 28, 2009 | No Comments
The last time we saw a simplified GPS homing device about, we weren't too terribly impressed. Sure, the premise was solid: press one button to lock in the position of your car (or the gold of Dresden), and it will return you to its location after your day at the mall (or after you've successfully evaded capture). But who wants to spend $80 on a glorified key fob? Not us, that's for sure. For a less pricey alternative, you might want to check out a little something called the Travel Honey. Distributed by Chinavasion, this bad boy not only functions as a stand alone unit, lighting up as you zero in on your target, but it can also connect to your PC via USB for use as a full-blown GPS unit (software not included). And if all that weren't enough, it will also log your various locations in a text file (perfect for keeping track of mileage and geotagging photos). Available now for $53.87.
