Video: Is it a camera? Is it a phone? It’s the Android-powered point-n-shoot!

For years now, people have been arguing that point-n-shoot cameras will one day be replaced by camera phones, but now it seems that Altek have decided to do a backflip and replace the camera phone with a point-n-shoot. What you're looking at here is the 14MP, Android-powered, Altec Leo point-n-shoot-camera-phone-thingo.

Kin Studio web app shown off on video

If you read many reviews of the Kin One and Two, you may have noticed that the one feature that was universally praised was the syncing software, Kin Studio. Today, I understand why that is. The folks over at Pocket Now have uploaded a video run-through of the main features of the Silverlight-based web app, and, I gotta say, it's pretty neat.

Quick hands on with the Vizit cellular connected touchscreen photo frame

The Vizit photo frame is an interesting twist on conventional photo frames. Forget about setting it up over Wi-Fi or USB—this thing connects to AT&T’s network and pulls in photos sent via e-mail, MMS, browser upload, Photobucket, and Flickr. I had a chance to play around with a beta version of the frame, so this isn’t [...]

Review: Kempler & Strauss W Phone Watch

Short Version: The Kempler & Strauss W Phone watch is a great idea. It’s a compact, unlocked GSM phone that makes a great conversation piece and is fun – if a bit maddening – to use. Can it ever be your “first phone?” Absolutely not, but at $199 unlocked you can’t get a GSM phone [...]

webOS 1.3.5 for Palm Pre starts rolling out – Still no video recording.

Pre-toting people around the Internets have been hoping and praying that Palm would add video recording support to the Pre ever since the device launched. When Palm’s CEO Jon Rubinstein mentioned that webOS 1.3.5 would be hitting the Pre in just a few days, people started getting antsy; surely this would be the one that [...]

  • Multifl0w project teaches Apple a thing or two about iPhone multitasking

Multifl0w project teaches Apple a thing or two about iPhone multitasking

Though it's relented on MMS and copy / paste, Apple has stubbornly, steadfastly continued to hold the line on the multitasking issue throughout the iPhone's two and a half-year career. Though it has a point about traditional multitasking burning through power, competing smartphone platforms -- scratch that, every competing platform -- has proven that it's still plenty possible to get a full days' life out of a battery while running a full host of apps in the background. Of course, the jailbroken iPhone community knows this full well, which is why there are a number of utilities available for backgrounding apps, but maybe none quite as slick as the just-released multifl0w. Taking a cue from the Pre, multifl0w adds backgrounded apps to a horizontally-scrollable gallery of cards; the only thing it's missing is a swipe gesture for quitting, but it's a minor point. Apple, we know you're seeing how good this is -- is there a defensible reason for why we still have to h4x0r our handsets to get this?

    [Thanks, Jai]

FunMail Takes The Work Out Of Picture Messaging

Everyone loves picture messaging – or at least, they love the idea of it. After the novelty wears off, it’s generally reserved for the occasions when [...]

Samsung to launch the Mythic and Flight for AT&T on Nov. 8th

Another week, another truckload of Samsung devices dumped onto the shelves. This week's Samsung shipment brings two new TouchWiz-based touchscreen handsets: the Mythic, and the Flight. Before we dive into the specs, we gotta give Samsung some grief for the names. Not because they're bad - in fact, I really, really like both of these names. So much that I wonder why the hell Samsung is giving them to two random TouchWiz handsets. I mean, come on: LG has to resort to calling one of their best selling phones "Cookie", and you throw away Mythic? For shame! Anyway, on to the handsets:

MMS for iPhone 2G and tethering on OS 3.1.2 explained, not for the faint of heart

Let's be clear upfront that this isn't for the casual iPhone jailbreaker, but if you feeling like living on the edge, you can give your original model an added boost of MMS capability, or any device with OS 3.1.2 the power to tether. Highlighted in a series of tweets today by iPhone dev team lead MuscleNerd, whiterat (for MMS) and two-bit (for tethering) will get the job done, but both require tinkering with the baseband, which is exponentially more advanced and brick-inducing than, say, installing Cydia. Venture forth with the instructions beyond the read links below.

HTC Tilt2 now available on AT&T

Those looking for a slightly more QWERTY-equipped WinMo 6.5 device for AT&T than the HTC Pure need look no further than its stablemate, the Tilt2, now that it's officially available to all comers. The carrier's second model to use Microsoft's latest and greatest cut of Windows Mobile stays pretty true to its Touch Pro2 roots, offering an industrial-strength full duplex speakerphone, 3.2 megapixel cam, WVGA tilt-up display, and of course, that five-row QWERTY keyboard that makes banging out long emails and extended MMS tirades just a little more tolerable. Interest parties should come bearing gifts and plenty of cash, because it'll run $349.99 on contract before a $50 mail-in rebate.
