DIY: Turn your Guitar Hero controller into a Ukulele

Here's an interesting modification for a Guitar Hero controller. An anonymous modder posted a project to Instructables showing how to convert a full size controller to a small size. The modder converted his to a smaller size for his two year old daughter, but whatever your reason is, it looks like a fairly easy thing to do.

How to mod your original NES to epic levels

Some hardware is just dear to a geeks heart that they can't let it just die. Take for example the original NES system. Some enthusiasts take modding them to a whole new level. I mean, I like to play Mario Bros. as much as the next guy, but this is getting extreme.

So here's a somewhat interesting gadget. Instead of converting a PS3 into a hand-held device, a crafty modder named techknott built a custom transmitter. The transmitter allows a player to not only control their PS3 remotely, but also to view the output on a small video screen.

iPhone camera mod for magnification: because you can

We've thought before how nice it might be to have some powers of magnification on the iPhone's cam... but are we going to go out and mod our unit? Probably not, but that doesn't mean we can't admire someone else's work. Taking various lenses and attaching them to the lid of a jar, the modder quite carefully built a contraption that looks a little "hobo Steampunk" to us, but we're still fairly impressed with this little gadget. Hit the read link for full, detailed instructions and more photos if you'd like to make one of your own.

If you’ve rooted and modded your Android phone you’ve probably found Cyanogen, one of the best sources for modded Android ROMs out there. All of his ROMs are stable, usable on the G1 and MyTouch, and well-designed. Google, however, takes issue with him releasing closed-source Google apps like Gmail, Maps, and YouTube and has sent him [...]

Ben Heck inches closer to finishing ‘Bill Paxton Pinball’ machine

PaxtonWhen I interviewed modder extraordinaire Ben Heckendorn a couple of months ago, he mentioned that he'd been working on building a pinball machine from the ground up and that it'd be called "Bill Paxton Pinball" when all is said and done. While it's not quite together yet, Heckendorn has made some serious progress on the actual cabinet itself, which now includes photos of Paxton in various movie and TV roles such as Twister, Big Love, and True Lies.

Actually useful LED lights installed on Eee

Do you know the one thing that I absolutely love about my BlackBerry? The little LED indicator light. That single light informs me when I have a new message, if a call is coming in, if Bluetooth is turned on, and a whole lot more. So why isn't there such a light on computers? One modder answered that question by installed a three-color LED light on his Eee PC with a very similar functionality.
