Motorola Shadow slithers into Verizon’s inventory database as MB810
Posted on May 29, 2010 | No CommentsIf the whole "smoke -> fire" adage proves true once more, it's looking like Verizon loyalists can expect to see a Shadow at least a few milliseconds before a CDMA iPhone. Following up on months of leaks and rumors, we've got yet another snippet of evidence pointing towards a VZW release of the so-called Motorola Shadow. Spotted here in the carrier's inventory database, the MB810 moniker aligns perfectly with that WiFi certification we saw earlier in the month. Combine that with the fact that this is definitely some sort of Motorola smartphone, and you've got everything you need to start pinching those pennies for a June / July debut. Oh, you already threw down a Benjamin for Memorial Day grub? Good luck with that return policy.

Nintendo trademarks “3DS” among others
Posted on May 18, 2010 | No Comments
Backstory: A Nintendo suit said a while back that the company hasn't announced the official name yet for its upcoming handheld 3D gaming device. This of course suggests that 3DS isn't the official name.
Well, that might not be true if Nintendo's recent trademark filings have anything to say about it.

Orange and T-Mobile become Everything Everywhere (in the UK)
Posted on May 11, 2010 | No CommentsWe did ponder how you can rename the Orange and T-Mobile coalition (topical word, eh Britain?) without offending either party, and the strategy seems to have been to just go for a name so bombastic that it overshadows all other concerns. Say hello to Everything Everywhere. Such is the strident new moniker attached to the joint venture between the French and German telecoms, with the justification being that the resultant "super-network" will be the biggest in the UK and therefore capable of providing both universal coverage and limitless services. We'll see how that works out, but for now it's important to note that the high street brands won't be changing. T-Mobile and Orange will retain their separate identities (and eye-searing color schemes), while offering you all the synergistic benefits resulting from the scale of the new company. Full PR after the break.Continue reading Orange and T-Mobile become Everything Everywhere (in the UK)

AT&T drops Tiger Woods sponsorship
Posted on December 31, 2009 | No Comments
Gotta hand it to Bloomberg for this riveting one-sentence article written by two people.
“AT&T Inc. is ending its sponsorship agreement with golfer Tiger Woods, company spokesman Michael Coe said in an e-mailed statement.”
I don’t recall seeing Woods in any TV or print commercials for AT&T but he definitely had a few big, fat AT&T logos on his golf bag. The company still has Luke Wilson and the iPhone, so sleep easy, friends.

HP files for ‘Zeen’ and ‘Airlife’ trademarks for handheld devices
Posted on December 30, 2009 | No CommentsHaving only recently marked its return to the handheld computing space with the iPAQ Glisten, HP seems intent on forging ahead with more hardware in the coming year. The above trademark applications -- filed in September and October 2009 -- mark out some very broad categories, but we can narrow them down a little with the help of some context. Given all the industry excitement over tablet devices, the Zeen could well be the name of a forthcoming slate-shaped machine and accompanying software, while Airlife seems to be planted firmly in the smartphone arena. The moniker suggests a software ecosystem rather than actual hardware, but that would make little sense with just one handset out there; if we were the betting type (and believe us, we aren't), we'd probably expect to see more mobiles coming from the computing giant in order to take advantage. Of course, companies don't always follow through on trademark applications, but it sure seems as if HP is casting a wary eye over the burgeoning handheld market (and / or planning to not get left behind in the months ahead).HP files for 'Zeen' and 'Airlife' trademarks for handheld devices originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 30 Dec 2009 09:25:00 EST. Sonorasaurus, dinosaur DJ of the Cretaceous Period. Now on your iPhone!
Posted on December 7, 2009 | No Comments
If we keep releasing iPhone DJ apps, we need to come up with a new moniker instead of "disc jockey." But "file jockey" or MP3 spinner" just don't roll off the tongue as easily. Sonorasaurus has just released version 1.1 of their iPod Touch/iPhone DJ app. You know, for those long road trips where just putting your iPod on shuffle isn't enough.

DROID headed to Germany as Motorola MILESTONE (update: Italy too, no Google Maps Navigation)
Posted on November 2, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Motorola, O2, Android
O2 Germany has confirmed a GSM version of the DROID for Europe going by the name of the Motorola MILESTONE. The news comes courtesy of a sliver of O2's online store page that left itself exposed to the wiles of Google, complete with the above picture and the new moniker, and follows close on the heels of a leaked business guide which says the MILESTONE will retail for €404.20 to corporate customers, and will be available as of November 9th.
Update: It's now official on the Motorola Germany (and english language Western Europe) website where it lists Vodafone and O2 as local carriers. Italy now too, on an unspecified carrier. Oh, and it also lists "pinch and zoom" as a feature not found on the Droid. See for yourself after the break.
Update 2: As noted by a few readers, Milestone will ship with MOTONAV turn-by-turn directions, not Google's Maps Navigation.

Motorola CLIQ available to T-Mobile customers now, great masses November 2
Posted on October 19, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Motorola, T-Mobile, HSDPA, Android
Well now this is a pleasingly rapid transition from announcement to review samples to market availability. Motorola's Android-loving CLIQ (already on sale under the moniker DEXT in the UK), its QWERTY keyboard and all the apps you could desire are now ready to be had, should you already have an account with T-Mobile, the device's exclusive US carrier. It was expected that only pre-orders would be taken today, but it appears for all the world that T-Mobile is ready to start shipping the CLIQ to its loyal customers ahead of the November 2nd full release date. Prices start from the previously reported $200 on a two-year agreement -- a move that will give you plenty of time to wonder if you shouldn't have waited for more details about the Droid mashup from Verizon, Motorola, and Google.Motorola CLIQ available to T-Mobile customers now, great masses November 2 originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 19 Oct 2009 04:56:00 EST. Legal slap-fight over ‘Netbook’ moniker is behind us
Posted on June 1, 2009 | No Comments
Late last year we reported that a company named Psion was gearing up for some legal action in order to defend products it had called the "Netbook" and "Netbook Pro" back in the early part of the decade.
Psion initially sent out cease and decist letters to various websites in the UK, demanding that references to "netbook" or "netbooks" be removed, and then later got into a legal scuffle with Dell, Intel, and others who had been using the term "netbook" in marketing literature.
It looks like this whole situation may finally be behind us now, as an "amicable agreement" has been reached between Psion and Intel:

I've been rounding up a lot of
