Look at that, someone (Super Talent) has finally thought to release relatively inexpensive SSDs

All the cool kids in the neighborhood are building their PCs with solid state drives these days. Who wants to use a plain old hard disk drive, what with its icky moving parts, when you can cruise along on a drive with zero moving parts? I mean, it's no contest. Problem: SSDs are usually what I like to call "mad expensive." You're paying a heck of a lot for a fairly small drive... until now~! Super Talent has a brand new line of "value" SSDs that are low-ish in price. It's all the benefit of an SSD without the incredibly high price. At least that's the idea.

Fisher-Price iXL: E-book reader, music player, games, and more

Electronics for kids have always been a fascination of mine. When I first saw the iXL I immediately thought of the first and best piece of kids consumer electronics, the PXL-2000. Sadly, this device, the Fisher-Price iXL, has no camera - there are two little eyes on it that are actually light sensors - but it has a bright, crisp screen and can play games, MP3s, and you can even paint over photos or color things in like a coloring book.

AV Bank Dodeka: Thanko’s pretty decent looking 7-inch media player

Tokyo-based crap USB gadget vendor Thanko does roll out devices from time to time that are not that crappy. And their so-called AV Bank Dodeka [JP], a media player that boasts a 7-inch screen (iPhone: 3.5 inches), seems to be one of those. It's a major upgrade to the AV Bank Thanko started selling just last month. The Dodeka's LTPS screen has a 800×480 resolution and can double as a digital picture frame. It features 8GB of internal memory but also supports microSD/SDHC cards (up to 16GB). Videos can be viewed in AVI/MPEG/FLV/MP4/MOV/PMP/DAT/VOB/RM/ or RMVB format. The player also plays MP3s and displays JPEG/GIF/ and BMP photo files.

Belkin’s Windows 7 Easy Transfer Cable is your way out of family tech support

Ah, late October – a time when a young man’s fancy turns to love, the autumn gingerly steps aside to make way for winter, and, this year, the beginning of at least a year’s worth of non-stop free tech support you’ll have to provide to any of your friends and family that decide to buy a new computer with Windows 7 on it. The biggest question: How do I get all my dumb photos, tax returns, and Miley Cyrus MP3s onto my new computer? Your new answer: Buy this $40 cable and leave me alone.

  • What can the iPod nano FM tuner do for you?

What can the iPod nano FM tuner do for you?

Before you all say it at once, I know the Zune has had an FM tuner all along. But the new iPod nano just got one of its own and so FM is all of a sudden relevant again. A recent online survey by VisionCritical of 1,185 American adults shows that 66% have an active interest in the pause-and-rewind feature of the built-in FM radio. Plus, it's the third most popular feature of the iPod nano only after the new, larger screen and the video camera. But how many people will really use it?

  • What, if anything, is stopping you from leaving your iPod for the Zune?

What, if anything, is stopping you from leaving your iPod for the Zune?

A comment from earlier in the day sparked a bit of a conversation in the official CrunchGear chat room: what's to stop someone from ditching the iTunes-iPod “universe” and switching to the Zune HD? (We're all pretty keen on the Zune HD for whatever reason.) Those of you with iPhones are pretty much stuck using iTunes, but what's to stop someone from saying, “You know, I've used an iPod in one form or another for the past five years, so I think I'm gonna try something new for a change.”? Let's see what's up.

Yup, that’s a $600 Bose iPod dock you’re looking at

Bose had some sort of official unveiling in New York earlier today, but I didn't want to leave Matt and Doug manning the site all by themselves, so I didn't attend. This is what I missed: the Bose SoundDock 10, a $599 (?!) iPhone/iPod dock that weighs some 19 pounds. It's rather big, yes.
