Android 2.2 Froyo officially announced
Posted on May 20, 2010 | No Commentsdigg_url = 'http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/20/android-2-2-froyo-officially-announced/'; No huge surprises here, but Google just announced Android 2.2 "Froyo" at I/O, and the big addition is a just-in-time compiler, which brings a 2-5x speed boost to the system. There are also 20 new enterprise features, including better Exchange integration and device administration APIs, as well as a new device backup app that'll let you transfer personal data to a new device. Android 2.2 also features a new cloud-to-device messaging API that Google called "much more than a push notification service designed to make up for a lack of basic features like multitasking," and of course, WiFi tethering -- which was used to get a WiFi iPad online during the demo to great cheers. Google also demoed a new JavaScript engine in the Android browser, which is billed as "the world's fastest web browser," and a Chrome browser plugin that allows you to send directions from Maps on your desktop directly to your phone.
It's all going on live right now, so make sure to go hit our I/O liveblog!Android 2.2 Froyo officially announced originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 20 May 2010 11:48:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Another iPhone 4G prototype shows up, bares all including Apple’s own A4 chip
Posted on May 12, 2010 | No Comments
This is just silly now. Another iPhone has leaked onto the Internet. What kind of ship does Steve Jobs run over there at Apple? This time around they aren't going to be able to bust down the owner/seller/stealer's door seeing as it all went down in Vietnam. Then again, anything is possible with the Apple gestapo.
But somehow a Vietnamese website got a hold of the device. The back story really doesn't matter right now. They got and posted pics and video -- good for them. The site went a bit farther than Gizmodo, though. They actually tore it apart, revealing a nice little surprise.

Yet another so-called iPad killer surfaces, brings a 1Ghz CPU and Android 2.1
Posted on May 6, 2010 | No Comments
Note to manufacturers and the Internet: Just because a tablet has the latest hardware, can run Flash, and rocks Android, doesn't mean it's going to take over the world. Like this Mastone Lifespad 3G. Technology-wise it's on par with the iPad with it's 1Ghz Freescale CPU, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, and 3G module. Then the Android 2.1 install somewhat tops the iPhone OS with multitasking and the works. But that doesn't mean it's an iPad killer.

Video: The iPhone 3G might be able to multitask in OS 4.0 after all.. if it’s jailbroken
Posted on April 14, 2010 | No Comments
Never ones to let Apple's work go untested, the jailbreak community has just put to the test Apple's claims that the iPhone 3G (as compared to the iPhone 3GS) couldn't handle the multitasking functionality introduced in iPhone OS 4. As it turns out.. it can -- but don't prep the torches and pitchforks just yet.

Boing Boing shows off the Marvel Comics iPad app
Posted on April 2, 2010 | No CommentsThe Marvel Comics app one of the three iPad apps that actually make me want to drink the Apple kool-aid and go lay down alongside the Apple faithful to slowly drift towards a land of simple, non-multitasking computing. What if…Apple only offered the 64GB/3G iPad and sold it for $499
Posted on February 11, 2010 | No Comments
Even though the iPad is still more than a month away from shipping, iSuppli conducted a preliminary itemized parts breakdown. The results aren't that surprising: Apple's making a boatload on these things. Suppli concluded that the $499 16GB/no 3G model only costs $229 to manufacturer with the $829 64GB/3G model costing only $117 more to make even though it carries a $329 premium. Nice, eh?
These numbers can be broken down even further showing Apple's insane margins. The 3G module only costs $24.50, but Apple charges $129 more for the option. The NAND memory chips are really the only difference between all three options, but their real costs of $29 for 16GB, $59 for $32GB, and $119 for 64GB are nowhere near proportionate with the iPad's prices. All this data shows that Apple's abandoning its long-held K.I.S.S. strategy.
So what if Apple got back on the keeping it simple bandwagon, only offered the high-end 64GB with 3G iPad and still sold it for $499? After all, the company would still be making at least $153 on each iPad sold. Would that turn around the iPad's outlook?

Multifl0w project teaches Apple a thing or two about iPhone multitasking
Posted on November 30, 2009 | No CommentsThough it's relented on MMS and copy / paste, Apple has stubbornly, steadfastly continued to hold the line on the multitasking issue throughout the iPhone's two and a half-year career. Though it has a point about traditional multitasking burning through power, competing smartphone platforms -- scratch that, every competing platform -- has proven that it's still plenty possible to get a full days' life out of a battery while running a full host of apps in the background. Of course, the jailbroken iPhone community knows this full well, which is why there are a number of utilities available for backgrounding apps, but maybe none quite as slick as the just-released multifl0w. Taking a cue from the Pre, multifl0w adds backgrounded apps to a horizontally-scrollable gallery of cards; the only thing it's missing is a swipe gesture for quitting, but it's a minor point. Apple, we know you're seeing how good this is -- is there a defensible reason for why we still have to h4x0r our handsets to get this?
[Thanks, Jai]Continue reading Multifl0w project teaches Apple a thing or two about iPhone multitasking

More pics and facts about the new DROID by Motorola
Posted on October 28, 2009 | No CommentsToday is the International Day of the DROID. Well, not really, but Verizon did follow through and officially announced its new flagship Motorola Android device – DROID. Along with the official presser, Motorola was also kind enough to provide some glistening press shots of the DROID, “A no-compromise supergenius” as they like to call it, along [...]

What can I do to get you into a new Acer Aspire X3 or M3 Series PC? I can't go lower on price - my manager is already busing my stones about dropping the price down to $449.99 - but how about I throw in a "space-saving chassis" and mention they're an "appealing addition to a dorm, bedroom or home office." No? Still nothing?
Look, the X3 series is the high-end stuff, a good, strong machine. This M3, though has only been driven one-hundred and then thousand miles by somebody I know personally who changed the graphics cards regularly. You can get an Intel or AMD processor to go with your X series or a nice AMD processor for M3. You've heard bad things about foreign processors? Where? Consumer Reports? They lie. They lie all the time.
Can we go into my office, sit down, have some coffee? Talk this over? I think we can make a deal.
