Listen! Grooveshark debuts native Palm webOS app
Posted on February 23, 2010 | No Comments
Online music service Grooveshark is today announcing the launch of a native app for devices running Palm webOS, or in other words the Palm Pre and Pixi phones.
With the app, Grooveshark users gain access to its vast on-demand song catalog - the number of tracks in there runs in the millions - but also to the personal playlists and favorites they and other users have cultivated on the kick-ass music service.
The app should be available 'very soon', according to the startup, although VIP users (who pay $3/month) can get early access.

Mobile web may beat out mobile apps in the long run
Posted on February 3, 2010 | No Comments
Taptu, the mobile search solution, has been keeping an eye on the mobile web -- specifically what they're calling the mobile touch web, which I guess is slightly different from the non-touch mobile web -- and has produced a fairly comprehensive report of their findings. Of particular interest is the fact that "there are a higher proportion of shopping and services sites on the mobile touch Web (20%) compared to Apple’s App Store (3.6%)." According to Taptu, this is because "the mobile touch Web provides the opportunity for direct-to-consumer billing."

Why Is Google Latitude A Web App And Not A Native App? Because Apple Said So.
Posted on July 23, 2009 | No Comments
We briefly pointed this out in our longer post on Google Latitude launching on the iPhone, but it's worth pointing this out separately. In its post today, Google made an unusual admission about its service: It apparently built a native Latitude app for the iPhone, but Apple asked it to make it a web app, so Google did that instead.
Here's their actual wording:
We worked closely with Apple to bring Latitude to the iPhone in a way Apple thought would be best for iPhone users. After we developed a Latitude application for the iPhone, Apple requested we release Latitude as a web application in order to avoid confusion with Maps on the iPhone, which uses Google to serve maps tiles.
