Nokia updates N900 to version 1.2 in UK, closes door on MeeGo
Posted on May 25, 2010 | No CommentsYou've overclocked it and hacked it to run OS X and Android, now you can return your N900 to its native Maemo 5 OS with the launch of a version 1.2 software update. The V10.2010.19-1 bump now available in the UK (global on Wednesday) packs several enhancements including face-to-face video calling, improved Ovi Maps, and a better email experience with bundled Facebook IM Chat and the ability to accept or decline event invitations from the inbox. You'll also see a number of new games when the Ovi Store switches over on Thursday.
And after much speculation, Nokia's also admitting that MeeGo will not be officially supported on the N900 once the Intel / Nokia OS is device ready. Nokia will continue to support the core Maemo OS, however, as demonstrated by today's update. Regardless, we're sure that the N900's active fan-base will deliver a MeeGo update outside of official channels, especially since the N900 is already being used as a platform for ARM-based MeeGo development.

New software converts 2D cell phone games into 3D
Posted on May 10, 2010 | No Comments
3D continues to be a hot topic in the tech world. Tokyo-based middleware company HI Corp. today announced [JP] it has developed software that makes it possible to convert regular 2D cell phone games into 3D games. HI claims its image-rendering software, the new version of "MascotCapsule", lets users then play the 3D games without glasses.

Is 3 Call of Duty games in less than 2 years overkill? If not, it’s awfully close.
Posted on April 22, 2010 | No CommentsSimply amazing. Just totally, out-of-this-world amazing. Activision is said to be working on no less than three new Call of Duty games, to be released before 2012. That's three games in less than two years. You'd think that Activision learned its lesson with Guitar Hero. Remember when Guitar Hero was white-hot in 2007? The game was everywhere! Now? Is there anybody left on the planet who has any interest in the game, or the genre as a whole?

First screenshots of Fallout MMO (that may never be released)
Posted on November 13, 2009 | No CommentsLong before Fallout 3 there was Fallout 2. And before that, Fallout. Interplay made the two first games, while Bethesda made the third one under some sort of licensing deal that would allow Interplay to create new Fallout games not connected to Fallout 3. Then Bethesda sued Interplay, which puts a game it was working on, a Fallout MMO, in jeopardy. These are screenshots of that game, to be used as evidence during the legal proceedings.

IntuiLab lets you blow things up with your hands.
Posted on October 8, 2009 | No Comments
New games are always a cause for excitement. Ubisoft's R.U.S.E. is a highly anticipated RTS set to release early 2010. But even cooler is the fact that you can play it on one of IntuiLab's large multi-touch tables, and kill things just by touching them.

Flumotion adds DVR-like ability to pause live streams for Champions League games
Posted on September 28, 2009 | No CommentsMatchday Two of the UEFA Champions League begins tomorrow. You probably already know this, because, really, who doesn't love the Champions League? Exactly. But unless you have DirecTV (here in the U.S.), you're stuck with whatever games are on the Fox networks. These games primarily feature the English teams, because, I guess, the idea is that “Americans speak English, so they probably like English teams.” Maybe it's a ratings thing, I don't know. (There's a point to all of this, believe me.) There's a company based out of Barcelona called Flumotion that has developed a new, maybe even better, way to watch the Champions League online. If you're at all familiar with a DVR, then you're familiar with the company's new setup.

Elder Scrolls franchise not dead yet
Posted on August 18, 2009 | 1 Comment
Last week at QuakeCon, Bethesda Software employee Todd Howard made a statement that was misquoted, and has started quite the uproar. When asked if there were going to be any new Elder Scrolls games, he responded that people shouldn't look for any "in the near future". This led people to believe that there weren't going to be any new games at all.

Splinter Cell: Conviction and Red Steel 2 both delayed until early next year

Entertainment Merchant Association, looking to save money, proposes new radio-lock for games, movies
Posted on June 25, 2009 | No CommentsDid you know that video game theft costs retailers billions of dollars a year? So says the Entertainment Merchant Association, a group that “advance[s] the interests of the $33 billion home entertainment industry.” That's actual theft, mind you. Like, you walk into a store, swipe a game, put it under your shirt, then amscray. The solution to this problem? Not to lower the price of video games so that people don't have to steal, no, but to install some sort of radio-activated lock. Said lock would make the games (or movies) unplayable until they've been unlocked at the cash register.

Natal to launch with new Xbox 360 console?
Posted on June 13, 2009 | No Comments
Start up the rumor engine, ladies and gentlemen. 1UP.com is reporting that Microsoft's Project Natal may actually be shipping integrated into a new console next fall. From the sounds of it, though, the console won't be new as in different but new as in improved slightly. That is, new games would apparently work on both the current Xbox 360 console and "Xbox Natal" as it's being unofficially called.

DJ Hero website and pre-orders go live, Jay-Z Special Edition seen in the distance
Posted on May 30, 2009 | No CommentsWith just days to go before the gaming world goes wild at E3, the hotly anticipated DJ Hero is now spinning on its very own website. Granted, a few of the sections are still labeled as "coming soon," but we're given a few more sneak peeks at the hardware, the gameplay and even a duo of handy links to pre-order it. According to listings on both GameStop and Amazon, the software and turntable are slated to ship on October 27th, with the bundle priced at $119.99 for all four of the major consoles (yes, new games are still being made for the PS2). Better still, the latter e-tailer has the Jay-Z Special Edition Bundle listed for Sony's PS3 and Nintendo's Wii, though neither of those are accompanied by MSRPs or expected ship dates. And to think, those are just two of our 99 problems...
[Thanks, Joey]
