Assassin’s Creed II DRM proves that Ubisoft hates your guts and wants to beat you up after school
Posted on February 17, 2010 | No CommentsFellow PC gamers: it's time to freak out. You're familiar with Ubisoft's newfangled DRM scheme that requires you be online in order to play its games, right? It's 100 percent as awful as we had thought it would be. PC Gamer recently played Assassin's Creed II, and discovered what a pain the in the ass the DRM really, truly is. Get this: every time you lose your Internet connection the game boots you to the main menu, and all progress made from the last save point is thrown out the window. This isn't an MMO, mind you, but a plain ol' single player game. In other words, no Internet, no game. Bravo, Ubisoft.

KLM considering handing out e-book readers to passengers (bad idea)

In-flight movies might not be the only form of airline-provided entertainment on KLM flights. The airline is considering handing out e-book readers after the idea won a contest offered up by the airline. The idea beat out Online Tax-Free Shopping and placing wind turbines under the runways. (yeah, I don't get that either)
But as fun and exciting as free e-books seem, it would be a technical nightmare. Your mom barely knows how to use her cell phone, let alone a newfangled e-book reader. KLM might as well hire a Geek Squad agent for every flight.

AMD’s ATI Radeon E4690 brings HD, DirectX 10.1 support to embedded GPU arena
Posted on June 1, 2009 | No CommentsAMD's newfangled ATI Radeon E4690 may not be the next Crysis killer, but it should do just fine in next-gen arcade and slot machines. All kidding aside (sort of...), this new embedded graphics set is said to triple the performance of AMD's prior offerings in the field, bringing with it 512MB of GDDR3 RAM, DirectX 10.1 / OpenGL 3.0 support and hardware acceleration of H.264 and VC-1 high-definition video. The 35mm chip also differentiates itself by integrating directly onto motherboards and taking on many of the tasks that are currently assigned to the CPU, but alas, it doesn't sound as if we'll be seeing this in any nettops / netbooks anytime

Dell’s Mini 10v gets unboxed, cracked wide open, fitted with OS X
Posted on May 31, 2009 | No CommentsNot that Dell's other Mini machines aren't perfect candidates for creating your own hackintosh, but it's stellar to know that the outfit's newest member is as well. After going on sale earlier this month, the Mini 10v has been procured, unboxed and dissected, all in the name of unabashed discovery. Interestingly, it seems as if the RAM slot requires that the keyboard and motherboard be lifted for access, but for even the mildly seasoned computer user, that's absolutely nothing they can't handle. If you're into hardcore, uncensored splayings of newfangled netbooks, the read link is where you need to be, holmes.
