Rumor: Apple to ‘unlock’ Radio.app for iPhone and iPod touch?
Posted on October 14, 2009 | No Comments9 to 5 Mac has received word that Apple is working on bringing FM radio capabilities to its iPhone and iPod touch lines. More specifically, Radio.app (as it is known) will purportedly have permission to operate in the background (because Apple’s apps are better than the 80,000 other apps that don’t get to run in [...] -
Apple brings back Newton designer, defines irony
Posted on September 28, 2009 | No Comments
That fact that Apple has rehired Michael Tchao, one of the original Newton developers, is likely to stir up stories and posts about the Apple tablet. But the man has had a storied past in the CE field and Apple might have brought him back on board after a 15 year hiatus just because of his impressive resume. Or they need help on the Apple tablet marketing. Actually, that's probably exactly why Apple needs him back.

I Want To Kill Maude Flanders With Nike’s T-Shirt Gun
Posted on July 8, 2009 | No CommentsThere are few things in life more satisfying than using compressed air to fire textiles at high velocities. Before security confiscated it, we used a t-shirt cannon in the Wired office to destroy overhead lights, bruise butt cheeks, and keep interns in line. Terrorizing co-workers aside, Nike’s T-Shirt gun is essentially geek nirvana for those [...] -
T-shirt gun listed on Nike’s website for $1500
Posted on July 8, 2009 | No CommentsWho hasn’t been at a sporting event and wished for one of those T-shirt cannons? Nike is “selling” the Nike T-shirt Gun seen in the above video for just $1500. I put “selling” in quotes because it doesn’t seem legit. It’s one of those “internet jokes” that you may have read about in USA Today. According [...] -
Video: Parkour With Robots
Posted on June 30, 2009 | No CommentsThis (fake) Nike ad is all kinds of awesome, but the thing that strikes me is that even parkour-busting robots wear hoodies, which appear to be the free-runner’s uniform. This, ironically, means that they can’t enter the malls which are the home of Nike stores, or not in the UK at least: Some years ago [...] -

Nike+iPod gets repurposed as wireless key fob
Posted on May 27, 2009 | No Comments
Got a Nike+iPod kit laying around but not doing much exercising with it? Then you might want to follow the lead of SparkFun's Nate, who took the device and turned it into a decidedly non-exercise minded wireless key fob -- or iFob, as Nate has dubbed it. That, as you might expect, isn't exactly a completely straightforward process, and also involves putting an Arduino Pro Mini into the mix, not to mention a bit of minor surgery to both your car and your car's original key fob. If that doesn't scare you off, however, you can find the complete instructions and plenty of helpful pics at the link below, although you're on your own if you want to build something that actually starts your car.

Hacking your Nike+iPod to open your door
Posted on May 27, 2009 | No Comments
This Sparkfun project by Nate creates a keyless entry fob for a Mazda using a Nike+iPod kit, allowing you to leave your car keys at home. Using a serial board you can read the input and output bits of the footpod and grab signals and decode them.
