Epic Symbian^3 review published, notices it’s lagging behind
Posted on June 24, 2010 | No Comments
If you like detail as much as you like Nokias, then this news is going to make your day: Mobile Review have posted one of the most thorough overviews of an OS that I've ever seen.
The OS in question is Symbian^3, Nokia's latest build of their tried-and-true OS, and the final Symbian OS to grace an N-series device.

Samsung plans to double its smartphone share by end of year, jump ahead of HTC and Motorola
Posted on June 24, 2010 | No CommentsMore than 10% of worldwide smartphone market share: that's where Samsung plans to be, on triple its current handset volume, by the end of 2010 according to Lee Donjoo, senior VP of the company's Mobile Communications division. Mind you, such a jump would be staggering in terms of growth with Samsung owning less than 5% of global smartphone market share currently. A move to 10% would place them at number 4 globally according to IDC's numbers, behind Nokia, RIM, and Apple. The Android-lovin' Galaxy S / AT&T Captivate is good, but is it that good? We'll see. Regardless, the term "smartphone" can be defined many ways, and we suspect that Samsung's new Bada OS being pushed into devices previously classified as featurephones could help pad Samsung's numbers.Samsung plans to double its smartphone share by end of year, jump ahead of HTC and Motorola originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 24 Jun 2010 04:40:00 EST. Nokia: pre-alpha release of MeeGo for handsets coming June 30th
Posted on June 22, 2010 | No CommentsWe've already gotten an early peek at what's in store for MeeGo on handsets courtesy of some leaked UI guidelines, and it looks like folks now won't have to wait too much longer to try it out for themselves -- Nokia has confirmed that the pre-alpha release will be available on June 30th. That will be followed by the "fully productized" version sometime in October, which should also coincide with the release of some actual MeeGo-based handsets. No further details beyond that just yet, but N900 users should be the first to get a taste of a true MeeGo handset experience -- despite Nokia's lack of official support.Nokia: pre-alpha release of MeeGo for handsets coming June 30th originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 22 Jun 2010 16:24:00 EST. Nokia says all of its smartphones will support NFC starting next year
Posted on June 18, 2010 | No CommentsA few hiccups aside, Nokia has been one of the biggest boosters of near-field communication (or NFC) for years now, and it looks like it's now made its biggest commitment to the technology yet -- Nokia's Anssi Vanjoki has announced that all new Nokia smartphones will include NFC starting in 2011. Of course, he did say "smartphones," not "phones," so Nokia does still has quite a bit more room to grow -- and, no, he didn't offer any more details on what those smartphones might be.Nokia says all of its smartphones will support NFC starting next year originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 18 Jun 2010 17:57:00 EST. Kobo launches e-reader app for Android
Posted on June 18, 2010 | No CommentsKobo -- perhaps best known for its e-reader tie-up with Borders -- is bringing its platform and bookstore to Android, beating bigger players like Amazon to the game. If you've already got a Kobo account, you can just log in and get instant access to your already-purchased books, but if you're new, you can buy stuff right from your phone; it supports ePub and counts more than two million titles to its library (some of which are free). Strangely, Kobo is circulating a picture of what appears to be a Nokia 5800 with its Android announcement -- but if you can get past that, the app should be available in the Market right now. Follow the break for the full press release.Continue reading Kobo launches e-reader app for Android

Nokia N8 meets Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, has a good time (video)
Posted on June 16, 2010 | No CommentsNo, we're not revealing some great hidden feature here -- Nokias have been able to pair with Bluetooth devices since pretty much forever -- but throw a complete set of desktop implements together with the Finnish company's greatest new phone, and sparks of interest do fly. In this case, a pair of keen fellas have hooked a portable keyboard and a Logitech mouse up to the N8 and had some fun videotaping their exploits. If you're thinking this would make a pretty killer combination with the N8 plugged into an HDTV, well... you'd be right. Catch the video after the break.

Nokia N8 preview
Posted on June 14, 2010 | No CommentsStrap yourselves in, pilgrims. Nokia's next great handset has resurfaced in London today, and this time we were even allowed to turn it on. There's pretty much no way you could be unaware of the N8 by now -- Nokia's done the viral video thing, the teaser demo thing, the feature walkthrough thing, we've covered it to near-exhaustion. But we've never seen it, you know, doing stuff. You can now consider that omission corrected, as we've finally powered up the 3.5-inch OLED screen, entered the overhauled Symbian^3 wonderland, and come back to tell the tale. In-depth impressions follow after the break, and don't worry, we'll have video for you shortly as well.Continue reading Nokia N8 preview
