Are Chevy Volt buyers idiots? Audi’s American president thinks so.

The Chevy Volt is “a car for idiots.” Really? Dem be fightin words, Johan de Nysschen. The Audi of America President talked to MSN autos and had some strong feelings about the upcoming Chevy Volt. He states in part that the Chevy Volt will fail because there isn’t enough idiots to pay a $15k premium for a car that [...]

  • DIY: How to set up your own analog tv station

DIY: How to set up your own analog tv station

Despite the fact that analog television is dead (at least according to the FCC), some stalwarts are using their proficiency in dead tech to create their own channels, to rival the pirate radio of the 80's. Seems that it's actually pretty easy to pick up your own analog TV broadcast setup on ebay, strap an antenna to the nearest chimney, and then start spewing your own content over the airwaves. So easy in fact, there's an Instructable on how to do it.

Review: Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience (PS3)

I’ll save you the trouble of having to read a full review of Watchmen: The End is Nigh Part 2, folks. It stinks just like Part 1 stunk. Both parts are ridiculously repetitive and there’s only so much you can take of Rorschach hitting a guy in the nuts, head butting another and breaking some [...]

The joys of playing Street Fighter with your kids (and the devastation of losing)

A truly delightful tale about a parent playing against his six-year-old son in Street Fighter IV. A great father-son bonding moment, the father recoils in horror as he finds out, “Wait a minute, I'm losing to my six-year-old here. Oh, God, what have I done?”

Crazy Eddie was really insane, but not in a good way

Giz has some great videos from Crazy Eddie, the guy who went nuts in New York and New England back in the 70s and 80s, selling home appliances and CE to a trendy and naive audience. It’s interesting to note that Crazy Eddie could have been lying about his low-low prices. In an era where the [...]

Video: The World’s Fastest Remote-Control Car

Friggin’ nuts. If you wish to live a long life, you should never drive a car over 100 miles per hour. But remotely controlling a vehicle at blazingly fast speeds sounds pretty rad. That’s the idea behind Nic Case’s Schumacher Mi3, who holds the world record for fastest R/C car with a max speed of [...]

  • Sony patent shows surefire method of PS2 emulation possible on all PS3 models

Sony patent shows surefire method of PS2 emulation possible on all PS3 models

Think back to the autumn of 2006, right before the big PS3 launch. Expecting someone to pay five-hundred-and-ninety-nine-U.S.-dollars was (rightly) considered ludicrous, but the ability to play the entire PS2 library on the system somewhat lessened the blow. But then Sony removed the Emotion Engine chip from the PS3, thus rendering it unable to play PS2 games. (More recent models, like the one found in the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle, used a just-sorta-okay software emulation method to grant partial PS2 backwards compatibility.) All that may well change if Sony goes ahead and executes the idea found in this recently unearthed patent.

  • Ummm… about that Palm Pre/iTunes syncing

Ummm… about that Palm Pre/iTunes syncing

So, as we recall, the Palm Pre is supposed to have some sort of iTunes syncing feature built-in. With the Apple pedigree of most of its programmers, this isn't surprising. When you plug in your Pre, it seems, it will show up as an "iPod." But how did they do it? John Gruber smells a rat:
If you’re still holding out any sort of hope that Palm is using some sort of heretofore sanctioned, semi-sanctioned, or even maybe-sorta-kinda-sanctioned-if-you-squint-your-eyes means for a third-party device to sync with iTunes via USB, note that the Pre, when connected to iTunes, is labelled as an “iPod”. If you think Apple would ever allow the use of “iPod” to describe anything other than an actual iPod, you’re nuts.

Plastic Logic e-book reader: now with 3G

You're probably wondering what's been happening with that super thin, super sexy Plastic Logic e-book reader that we've seen floating around various tradeshows. Well, the device has landed at D7, and it's got a few new features cooked up -- most notably, built-in 3G data. There's no specifics on what carriers or bands, but besides that WiFi connectivity, you'll be able to go totally nuts out in the real world. Additionally, it looks like the company has seriously tweaked the UI, now providing a simple and clear interface for getting around your documents, and a page-turning gesture (don't mind the green tint in the pic above, the screen is still very much grayscale). The slate is definitely lust-worthy, but we noted a fairly slow screen refresh (way slower than the Kindle), which is kind of a downer -- along with that fairly distant 2010 launch date. Plastic Logic also made an appearance on Fox Business News today, and the video is embedded after the break.
