Cut My SIM does as its name commands
Posted on June 4, 2010 | No CommentsIn case you haven't noticed, all the cool kids are using Micro SIMs nowadays. But help is at hand if you're stuck with an old and busted Module, thanks to this stainless steel SIM trimmer. Painfully simple to use, it accepts old school chips, smashes down on them with the full force of modernity, and spits out an appropriately streamlined Micro SIM. But wait, you can reverse the modification too -- just use the included "back to normal" kit to turn back time and restore compatibility with your dated gear. The first batch of 500 has already sold out, but the next is expected to ship by the end of this month at a price of $25 or just under €20, depending on where you reside. What else do you need, a written invitation?Cut My SIM does as its name commands originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 04 Jun 2010 15:28:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

D-Pad Hero 2 coming May 16th
Posted on May 3, 2010 | No CommentsRemember those halcyon days of February 2009? D-Pad Hero had just come out, and rhythm game players all over the world were enjoying the flush of old school meets new school in a 256k ROM. Get ready to experience that joy once again, since the sequel (don’t these games always have a sequel) is coming [...] -
Sony Dash Internet tablet now available. (Update: No it’s not. Awesome.)
Posted on April 23, 2010 | No CommentsPeople of Earth! The Sony Dash is now totally available. It’s a $200 Internet tablet that also lets you watch Netflix. Cynics call it a “Chumby clone,” but if you’re going to clone something you might as well clone something that’s universally beloved. Yeah, no… I totally blame John for this, but the Dash isn’t available [...] -
First screenshots of Sonic The Hedgehog 4 reminds us of our youth
Posted on March 26, 2010 | No CommentsOh, look! The first screenshots of Sonic The Hedgehog 4! I do believe Sonic now hold the record for longest wait between the third and fourth game in a series, beating Street Fighter IV. That's my gut feeling, but that has proven wildly inaccurate in the past.

Posted on March 11, 2010 | No Comments
It’s Tecmo Bowl, but on your Xbox 360 or PS3. And without the NFL-licensed players and teams. But with a 3D-style look and feel! You can go old-school and play in 2D mode, too.

Quick hands on with the Vizit cellular connected touchscreen photo frame
Posted on March 9, 2010 | No CommentsThe Vizit photo frame is an interesting twist on conventional photo frames. Forget about setting it up over Wi-Fi or USB—this thing connects to AT&T’s network and pulls in photos sent via e-mail, MMS, browser upload, Photobucket, and Flickr. I had a chance to play around with a beta version of the frame, so this isn’t [...] -
Review: POD X3 Digital Guitar Amp Modeler
Posted on March 3, 2010 | No CommentsAs immature as it sounds, I was originally suspect of Line 6 products because I did not like the name of their Variax guitar line. (Whew, glad that’s off my chest). But while working on an audio project a while back, I picked up a Line 6 TonePort UX2 amp simulator/tone modeler in order to [...] -
Military-grade keypad used for wearable wrist computing
Posted on February 11, 2010 | No Comments
If you’ve been reading CrunchGear since this past summer, you should probably call a psychiatrist immediately may remember the iKey AK-39 military-grade wrist keyboard, which was basically a small-ish keyboard made for a soldier to wear on his or her wrist in order to manipulate a rugged, portable computer. Well iKey’s got a new keypad now, and it’s an OEM product meant to integrate directly with wrist-worn computers.

Dentists to replace drills with plasma jets
Posted on February 7, 2010 | No Comments
I can't believe how great this idea sounds. Instead of using the old-school (as in patented in 1887) drill technology to remove cavities, researchers are developing a method of using something called cold plasma to destroy the bacteria. I love the idea because I absolutely hate the sound of that damnable drill.

In Photos: Charlie Brown TIE Fighter
Posted on January 25, 2010 | No CommentsQuestion: Why make a TIE Fighter out of Charlie Brown’s head? Answer: Because it’s possible. The photo’s caption reads as follows: “This is a kit bash sculpture I did with an old school mpc vader tie model kit and some other plastic stuff I had. It combines two of childhood loves the wars and charlie brown. [...]

At last count, there are something like six Street Fighter games available for download from the Wii’s Virtual Console section. And for that truly old-school experience, you need a truly old-school controller. The $15 dreamGEAR Arcade Fighter Classic Gamepad for Nintendo Wii looks like it may be able to scratch that itch.
