Looks like it’s Splitsville for NVIDIA and Intel
Posted on October 9, 2009 | No Comments
That NVIDIA and Intel haven’t been getting along lately isn’t big news but it looks like NVIDIA has finally gotten up from the dinner table and left the restaurant in a huff. The epicenter of the problem appears to be NVIDIA’s Ion chipset, which provides some much needed oomph to netbook and nettop platforms. Intel wants to keep a distinct separation between its low-power, low-cost Atom chips and its more-capable Pentium chips. When NVIDIA’s Ion is added to an Atom platform, the extra power makes Intel’s higher-end (and higher-cost) CPU offerings a tougher sell.

Samsung 11.6-inch N510 netbook on the way?
Posted on June 29, 2009 | No Comments
Looks like Samsung's getting into the 11.6-inch netbook game with the upcoming N510. An 11.6-inch screen means a 1366x768 resolution, which in turn means that the machine ought to be able to play HD content, which in turn (in turn) means it's going to need some extra oomph. And it'll get just that by using the NVIDIA Ion platform.

Apple quietly updates $999 MacBook, again — goes back to school with free iPod touch
Posted on May 27, 2009 | No Commentsvar digg_url = 'http://digg.com/apple/Apple_Quietly_Updates_999_Macbook_Again'; Shh, don't tell the press but Apple just bumped the specs on its entry-level white MacBook again. The bump measures in at just 0.13GHz on the processor, 133MHz more oomph from the DDR2 SDRAM, and an extra 40GB of disk space. Still more is more better especially when it's
free$999. Apple also took the wraps off its back-to-school deal which nabs a decent discount on Macs (up to $200 off MacBook Pro) and tosses in a 8GB iPod touch (after $229 on-line rebate) to sweeten the deal.
Update: Looks like the battery might have been given a nudge to a rated 5-hours, up from 4.5.

Hey kids! Do you have a Palm Pre or Pre Plus? Do you long for a little extra oomph? Some extra glide in it stride, spring in its step, and dip in its hip? Are you aware that overclocking hacks exist, but are fearful of how difficult they are to implement? Are you still listening? Good, because I have some fantastic news!
Some of Pre Central's finest have created what they call the Super PreKernel App, which is a dead-simple way to bump the speed of your Pre or Pre Plus up to Superman speeds, or down to snail's pace, as you see fit.
Logitech promises that “Your built-in speakers just can’t compete with the stereo sound from this lightweight, portable speaker.” Whether or not that’s true will be up to you to decide, I suppose, but the single-cable operation of the “Logitech Laptop Speaker Z205” that’s “tiny enough to toss in your bag” may appeal to those of you looking for a bit more oomph.
