    Microsoft gearing up for worldwide launch of Project Natal in October

    In an interview with GamertagRadio, Microsoft Saudi marketing manager Syed Bilal Tariq reportedly spilled the beans on the launch date (well, month) of Project Natal, the Redmond company's motion-sensing camera for the Xbox 360. Not only did Tariq say that Project Natal would be hitting the market in October 2010, well in time for the holiday season, but he apparently also revealed that the launch would be global, or simultaneously in North-America and the EMEA region at the very least.

    Android Market Now Over 10,000 Applications Strong

    In the mobile OS world, Google's Android is still a challenger but with the amount of devices that will be running the system that are due to come out in the coming months alone in combination with its open approach it is definitely a contestant to watch closely. The success of Apple's App Store for the iPhone / iPod Touch is often measured by how many apps have already been developed for the platform (around 70,000), but since Google doesn't disclose exactly how many apps are available through Android Market it was difficult to compare the two on that particular level. But thanks to AndroLib, which provides a useful website where you can browse Android apps from your computer (unlike the Android Market website), we can conclude that there are currently at least 10,000 applications and games available on the platform today.

    Boxee Watches $6 Million More In Funding Stream In

    Boxee, the media center software startup, has won a lot of fans with its open approach to streaming content. And as a result it has won some more money, to the tune of a $6 million second round, led by Boston's General Catalyst Partners. The new money will be used for growth: Both expanding the team and expanding the service's reach in the market, we're told. But why now? After all, Boxee raised its first round of funding just 8 months ago, a $4 million round with Union Square Ventures and Spark Capital investing. "We've seen a lot of momentum over the past couple of months. It seemed like it made sense to go ahead [with a new round]," Boxee's new head of marketing Andrew Kippen tells us.
