SlingPlayer Mobile for Android ready to entertain you for $30 starting tomorrow
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No CommentsAfter a public beta spanning a couple months, Sling is rolling out the latest piece of its expanding SlingPlayer Mobile portfolio this week -- this time for Android, plugging the biggest coverage gap it currently has. This is the same app we recently had an opportunity to check out, but since that preview, we're happy to report that it's been massaged into a more stable, more usable setup -- gone are the disconnect crashes we'd had before. Furthermore, Sling claims they've specifically worked to improve load and response times with this version, and we have to say that the effort is noticeable -- this definitely feels like the fastest SlingPlayer Mobile we've used to date. It's officially available starting tomorrow from the Market in Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, and the US for $29.99. Follow the break for the full press release.Continue reading SlingPlayer Mobile for Android ready to entertain you for $30 starting tomorrow

Skype eager to work with Apple FaceTime, pretty much anyone else
Posted on June 8, 2010 | No CommentsWe're still playing the wait-and-see game when it comes to Skype on webOS and Windows Phone 7, but it looks as if to-be iPhone 4 owners won't have to wait long before Skype-based video chatting becomes a reality... if Skype has its way, that is. According to someone on the inside quoted over at Pocket-Lint, Skype "would welcome the opportunity to work with Apple," specifically in reference to integrating FaceTime capabilities into the firm's own app. The mystery man also affirmed that Skype would "welcome the opportunity to work with Apple to bring mobile video calling not only to our many millions of Skype users on iPhone around the world, but also to the countless more making video calls on desktops, TVs and other connected devices." 'Course, there's no specific time frame given, and only Jobs knows if the two companies have said a word to one another about making this happen. One thing's for sure, though -- enabling FaceTime usage within Skype would suddenly made the iPhone 4's video calling abilities a whole lot more appealing. And by "appealing," we mean "useful."Skype eager to work with Apple FaceTime, pretty much anyone else originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 08 Jun 2010 18:21:00 EST. Verizon adds more phones to FiOS Mobile Remote and Remote DVR Manager compatibility list
Posted on May 24, 2010 | No CommentsDid you notice that there were some fresh devices listed when the iPhone popped up on Verizon's FiOS Mobile Remote compatibility chart last week? Sure enough, Big Red ended up dropping some PR on the matter, taking the opportunity to pimp the fact that over a quarter million users have now downloaded its two-pack of FiOS mobile apps. Mobile Remote is now available on the Nexus One, Droid Eris, and Droid Incredible -- in fact, it should work on any Android 2.1-equipped phone -- and Remote DVR Manager is live for more than 50 devices, including the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and "most" Verizon BlackBerrys. Between the two, you can control your set-top box from your couch or the other side of the world; too bad we're telling you this the day after Lost, right?Verizon adds more phones to FiOS Mobile Remote and Remote DVR Manager compatibility list originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 24 May 2010 16:27:00 EST. Novatel MiFi 2372 rises from the ocean, stomps its way to Japan
Posted on April 26, 2010 | No CommentsI sort of love the MiFi. (What’s a Mifi? It’s a portable, battery-powered WiFi router that pulls data over a 3G connection.) If I had a box of candy for every time the MiFi got me out of a jam, I’d be.. well, I’d probably be crazy fat. Good news, people of Japan! Now you have [...] -

Posted on April 6, 2010 | No Comments
Oh, Sprint Moment; we hardly knew ye. You were just announced in October of last year, right as Android 2.0 made its grand debut. And yet, there you sit, still holding on to Android 1.6. Before you've even had the opportunity to dance in the up-to-date spotlight, it looks like Samsung is already working on your replacement.

Hands-on with the HTC Legend (with video)
Posted on February 16, 2010 | No Comments
When the HTC Hero was announced in June of last year, I would have made a valiant effort to eat my own head if it meant I got to own one. It was just so damned pretty.
I just got the opportunity to play with its brand-new successor, the HTC Legend - and, well.. to put it gently, it makes the HTC Hero look like an antique.
I only got to spend a few minutes with it, but I walked away not wanting to walk away. Read on for my impressions.

HTC sends out chocolate Hero replicas, LG realizes they missed an opportunity
Posted on January 11, 2010 | No CommentsYou know, the grass really is greener on the other side. Take the HTC Hero, for example; Russia’s got it, and so do we – albeit with a slightly less awesome body. No discrepancies there, though – we’ve both got the same basic phone, so we can all be happy. Android Developer Challenge 2 winners announced, makes for a convenient shopping list
Posted on December 1, 2009 | No CommentsGoogle just wrapped up the second coming of its festive Android Developer Challenge, an invitation to all comers to submit awesome apps in exchange for cash prizes (a whopping $100,000 for winners in each category, plus $150,000 for the overall champion). What made ADC 2 an especially exciting event was the fact that Google turned voting over to the public with a special ADC app giving users access to nominees' binaries, so the winners that you see here weren't selected by a hand-picked group of VIPs alone -- votes from around the world got factored into the results. It's a great opportunity for users to find out about some of the best apps available to the Android community right now, and there are some doozies in here -- we're particularly amped about SweetDreams and Andrometer, but judging from the icons alone, we're in for a wild ride across the board.Android Developer Challenge 2 winners announced, makes for a convenient shopping list originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Tue, 01 Dec 2009 17:14:00 EST.
