    Thank you, Columbus, Ohio!

If you weren't at the Surly Girl Saloon last night for the Columbus CrunchGear meetup, then you were somewhere else! You missed John sporting a new pair of Onion Goggles. You missed a nerd-a-thon comparing the Droid, HD2, iPhone, Dream, and whatever other handhelds folks could dig out of their pockets. And you missed an opportunity to put your grubby paws on not only the TwitterPeek but also the Nokia Booklet!

How do you like that, DVRs didn’t kill the television business after all

Here's a story I first heard on Figure 4 Daily last night while farming for mageweave (no, I'm not lying): not only have DVRs not ruined the TV businesses, as we had been led to believe for so many years, but it turns out that the delayed viewings, and more accurate ratings, have given the networks exactly what they've always wanted. That, of course, is the opportunity to squeeze more money out of their advertisers.

Sprint Drops Call Forwarding Fees With Google Voice In Mind

As the endless brouhaha ringing from all corners of the Internet has proven, AT&T (or Apple, or whoever takes the blame in the end) really dropped the ball on this Google Voice thing. Whether it was rejected outright or shelved indefinitely, competing parties have been quick to play on their delays. First, Palm essentially put third-party [...]

Telus kicks off HSPA+ network with iPhone November 5th, HTC Hero, LG New Chocolate and more to follow

Telus already announced that it'd be launching the iPhone in November, but it's just now gotten official with an actual date: November 5th -- which just so happens to also be the day that it lights up its brand new HSPA+ network. Unfortunately for anyone hoping that a little competition would spark a price war, Telus is matching Rogers' prices across the board, starting at $99.99 for the basic 8GB iPhone 3G, and moving up to $199.99 for the 16GB 3GS, and $299.99 for the 32GB 3GS (all on a three-year contract, of course). What's more, Telus has also taken the opportunity to offer the first official confirmation of some of the other devices that'll take advantage of its new network, including the HTC Hero, the previously rumored LG New Chocolate (a.k.a BL40), the Blackberry Bold 9700, and the Nokia E71 (plus a USB stick, for good measure). No prices or release dates for any of those just yet, unfortunately, but the Hero and New Chocolate are apparently Telus exclusives.

Microsoft will raise the price of the Xbox 360 in the UK in order to “counteract the poor pound-to-Euro currency exchange rate.” UK gamers will have to pay £159.99 ($260) for the Arcade model, up from £129.99 ($211).

Don’t worry, the District 9 director no longer wants anything to do with Halo movie

Back in 2006, when Wall Street was still flying high and Chelsea were sill kings of the English Premier League, Neill Blomkamp was in charge of the Halo movie. Thankfully, the project was canned. Blomkamp moved on to other projects, namely District 9, which looked cool till the actual trailer came out and disappointed me greatly.

Everything you want to know about Office 2010

The web has been abuzz the past few weeks with chatter about Microsoft's announcement today at its Worldwide Partner Conference in New Orleans about the new version of Microsoft Office 2010. There's even a mini-movie about its debut. Facing potential challenges from Google's browser-based Apps products and its new Chrome OS, Microsoft has been touting its three screens strategy, which is the ability for products to synchronize across the phone, browser, and desktop, for some time now. With the release of Office 2010, SharePoint Server 2010 and Visio 2010, we finally see the implementation of Microsoft Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie's mantra. We had the opportunity to see an in-depth demo of the new suite of products from Microsoft's Group Product Manager for Office 2010, Chris Bryant. Here's a complete breakdown of all the functionality that has been added, including screenshots:
