Buy your kid this Astro Boy netbook but keep it for yourself
Posted on October 27, 2009 | No Comments
I hear (via John's review) that Astro Boy is a fine movie. I doubt I will actually see it until my boy catches wind of it in a few years. but I tell you what, this Astro Boy netbook is geek chic and I sort-of want it. The specs are standard fare with an Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, and XP home, but it's the special edition lid that I can appreciate. It's notebook art done right; clean, simple but yet slick. So here's what you do.

Posted on September 25, 2009 | No CommentsShort Version: Billed by Alienware as “the most powerful laptop in the universe,” the M17x is simply an amazing piece of hardware. Unfortunately, it also might be the most expensive laptop in the universe. Long [...] -
Dell Z-series Inspirons shed weight, thickness, and voltage
Posted on September 8, 2009 | No Comments
Dell's gone ahead and added a lowercase "Z" to its Inspiron 14 and Inspiron 15 lines. That little Z means a little less weight and a thinner design thanks to ultra low-voltage CPUs from Intel. There's also the 11.6-inch Inspiron 11z CULV model, too, in case you missed it.

CradleVue – ’cause what’s a roadtrip without Sponge Bob
Posted on July 27, 2009 | No Comments
High-end portable DVD players are a scam. I know it, you know it, everyone knows it. Sure you can pick up a Walmart special for $75, but those $200 models just don't make sense when most people already have a notebook with an optical drive and a larger screen. But notebooks get hot and you might not want your little ones holding it for hours during a road trip. Enter the CradleVue.

Getac announces the lightest and smallest rugged notebook, 9213
Posted on July 9, 2009 | No Comments
Are rugged notebooks becoming a trend? Can anyone stand up to Panasonic and their Toughbook line? Getac thinks it can. Well, they've been doing this 'rugged' thing since 1989, so there's that.
Announced earlier today is the 9213, which Getac claim is the smallest and lightest business-rugged notebook. Encased in a full magnesium alloy chassis and case, the 9213 comes with a shock mounted HDD and LCD. Other ‘rugged’ essentials include a spill-resistant keyboard, touchpad and “surrounding surface.” Under the hood, a 45nm Intel C2D Penryn runs the show and 9213 boasts up to eight hours of battery life. Up to 12 hours without the optical drive, says Getac.

He's back with yet another incarnation of a portable Xbox. This time around he used a newer Jasper motherboard and added more features like a built-in Ethernet, digital volume controls, and a flush mounted optical drive.

Netbook owners may be able to buy Windows 7 on a thumb drive
Posted on June 26, 2009 | No Comments
Microsoft has an interesting problem on the horizon in trying to persuade netbook owners to upgrade to Windows 7 when said netbook owners' netbooks don't have optical drives. What's a giant software company to do?
There is simply no denying that the new HP Envy 13 and 15 look like an HP-ified Apple unibody MacBook Pro. Even the trackpad is a single, large glass button that supports gestures thanks to 3rd party software. I'm not saying they don't look great, but seriously, someone copied off of Steve Jobs' test. Good thing that these notebooks seem to have the power and poise to stand as HP's flagship line.
MSI's big-but-light X600 is now available for $800 from
