Sony Ericsson’s Cedar and Yendo phones leaked, vying for your attention
Posted on June 15, 2010 | No CommentsOopsie! Looks like Sony Ericsson's become as leaky as BP's oil rig these days, although we can't say we're all that stirred up by this particular exposé. On the left we have the Cedar, which is much like its hippie GreenHeart cousin Naite but with a touch of SE's "human curvature" sculpting on the back. So yes, still a dumbphone. As for the little Yendo on the right, we won't blame you if you mistook it as the similarly-shaped X10 Mini -- even the UI looks strikingly alike, plus both are littered with similarly vast ranges of back cover options to suit your retinal taste. That said, there's been no mention on whether this Walkman phone also runs on Android, so until SE gives us a clue, we'll be looking elsewhere for the time being. Head over to the source links for more pics.

Xbox 360 gets a few new options for the same price
Posted on June 14, 2010 | No CommentsHere it is, the new Xbox 360. It’s a tad smaller, a whole lot more shinny, and overall a cleaner look — but no slim naming scheme. It comes with built in WiFi, 250 GB all for the same price. Oh, and the are shipping tomorrow. Unless you were at the presser like us and [...] -
Nokia completes its N8 video tour with media player and HDMI demo
Posted on June 11, 2010 | No CommentsYou've seen parts uno and due already no doubt, so let's dive straight into the third and final installment of Nokia's N8 overview. Today we are treated to the Symbian^3 media player, which continues to closely resemble Apple's Cover Flow, but we're sure the companies will work it out between themselves. That cover-centric interface gets tugged around a few times to show the phone can handle it without lag, and we also get to see a repeat visit from our friend Mr. Long Press, which functions as a mobile version of a right-click by popping up a menu of contextual options. The video continues into a look at the HDMI connectivity and points out that the N8 will be compatible with Bluetooth keyboards -- you know, if you're in the mood for an Espoo-approved version of Google TV. See the whole thing after the break.

iPhone 4 coming to Three UK, pre-orders starting June 15
Posted on June 10, 2010 | No CommentsAnd just like that, the UK has turned into a veritable treasure trove of carrier choice. Three has just announced that it too will be carrying Apple's latest iPhone starting from June 24, expanding on the options to be provided by O2, Orange, Vodafone and, most recently, T-Mobile. That's now the complete set of five UK networks all ready to take your name and credit card number on launch day, while Three is also the first to announce its pre-order start date -- which it places at June 15, the same time that Americans will be able to pre-order. Three's strategy in the UK has usually been to undercut the big dogs with alluring pricing, so next week should be a very interesting time for British iPhone lovers indeed.

Are you eligible for an iPhone 4 upgrade? Here’s how to check
Posted on June 8, 2010 | No CommentsLove it or hate it, the new iPhone is coming on June 24th. For a lot of people, that means it’s time to shell out a fat wad of cash to get their latest gadget fix. Just how fat said wad of cash is, however, depends on various factors, including (but not limited to): your [...] -

Samsung Wave hits Vodafone UK on June 1, free on £25 a month plans
Posted on May 20, 2010 | No CommentsThe UK is about to get its first taste of Samsung's Bada OS courtesy of the Wave, which is launching with Vodafone on June 1. Already announced amid the carrier's list of "coming soon" devices, this Super AMOLED-sporting phone has now been slapped with pre-order availability and some pricing info. Should you opt for Voda's £25 ($36) per month two-year plan, which also furnishes you with 300 free minutes, unlimited texts, and a 500MB data allowance, you can have the Wave for free. Prices start to climb from there, though strangely enough, no 12-month or partially subsidized options are on offer. And before we forget, buying this phone will also get you a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes rucksack as an extra freebie -- how's that for value?Continue reading Samsung Wave hits Vodafone UK on June 1, free on £25 a month plans

T-Mobile rolls out fresh unlimited prepaid voice and text plans
Posted on May 17, 2010 | No CommentsSo those rumored new prepaid options for T-Mobile's American customers have turned out to be delightfully legit, and they're being made available pronto. To be specific, there are two new options coming into the fold: a $50 unlimited voice and text plan along with a $15 unlimited messaging plan that lumps in voice for 10 cents a minute -- potentially perfect for those of us who've migrated a solid 90 percent of our communication from calling to texting. It's also similar in theory to a plan being floated by Sprint's Common Cents Mobile, offering the same deal for $20 plus 7 cents per minute with its round-down feature -- in other words, Common Cents is probably the better option among the two if you do significantly more calling, though you'll be stuck with a bargain-basement selection of CDMA handsets. Both of T-Mobile's new options go live this Wednesday.T-Mobile rolls out fresh unlimited prepaid voice and text plans originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 17 May 2010 17:08:00 EST. More than half of Verizon’s customer base wants them to get the iPhone
Posted on May 6, 2010 | No CommentsIt's been said before, but let it be said again: Verizon better be kicking themselves right now. Not only did they not fight for the iPhone, they outright turned it away. This new 4,000-person survey by ChangeWave probably isn't going to make them feel much better.

Kin reviews are out… and not so good.
Posted on May 5, 2010 | No Comments
You've probably noticed on the 'webz today that the floodgates known as "the Kin review embargo" have opened, spewing forth impressions, opinions, analysis, and reviews for the masses to bathe in.
There is a general trend emerging, too. Something along the lines of "What have Microsoft done?"
I've rounded up some of the highlights thus far, for your reading pleasure:

Palm Runs Out Of Options As HTC Reviews, Declines To Buy The Company
Posted on April 23, 2010 | No Comments
According to a report based on a source from an Asia-based Reuters correspondent, smartphone maker HTC has decided not to bid for Palm after looking at the company's numbers. The source, which reportedly has direct knowledge of the talks, said there "weren't enough synergies to take the deal forward".
That leaves Palm, which has been struggling to boost sales of its new range of smartphones, running out of options fast.

Plextor’s first SSDs are now available for your consumption
Posted on March 1, 2010 | No Comments
It seems like nearly every computer accessory maker has a line of SSDs now and Plextor just joined that club with two SSDs. The company showed off its upcoming models at CES 2010, but now both the 64GB and 128GB options are available -- for a pretty price.

T-Mobile getting some Palm webOS lovin’?
Posted on February 18, 2010 | No CommentsPalm’s webOS is certainly one of the more polished operating systems out there; the others being the iPhone OS and Android. It’s clean, simple to use and attractive. However, it was available only on Sprint’s network for the longest time until recently when it arrived at Verizon on the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi [...] -
Relive the early days of gaming with this 1983 review of Frogger for Atari
Posted on February 5, 2010 | No Comments
Oh how we love the Internet. This review of the now-classic Frogger was first published in issue number 24 of Compute! in 1983. It's a fantastic look back to the simple times when Atari ruled the gaming world.
