Video: HTC EVO 4G vs Razors, Pennys, and Screws
Posted on June 11, 2010 | No Comments
So, for one reason or another, you've gotta send your HTC EVO 4G in to Sprint for an exchange. What do you do?
A) Wrap the EVO in the finest cloth you can find, ushering it gently into its shipping crate, or
B) Attack its screen with razor blades, pennies, and screws and film the whole thing for the sake of science/entertainment.
You can probably guess where this is going. (Hint: We probably wouldn't write a post about it if you went with option A.)

Calamity strikes iPhone debut: network fails, Steve Jobs demands people close their laptops and turn off Wi-Fi
Posted on June 7, 2010 | No CommentsAs Steve Jobs was waiting (and waiting and waiting…) for a Web site to load on the new iPhone 4, a person in the crowd shouted “Try Verizon!” Awkward. For the record, Apple now blames the insane amount of Wi-Fi access points (500+) in the demo hall for the network fail. The fun and excitement [...] -

Aava Mobile’s Intel Moorestown prototype plays World of Warcraft beautifully (video)
Posted on June 5, 2010 | No CommentsIntel has managed to make Moorestown-based phones do an awful lot of things on stage. Multitask, scale photos sans lag, and automatically correct your grammar before it comes out of your mouth. But believe it or not, one thing we haven't seen the Aava Mobile-built reference design do is play the full PC version of World of Warcraft and / or Quake III (from within Moblin) for over an hour on a full charge. Well, until this week's Computex event. Peek a couple of videos just past the break if you're in disbelief, and trust us when we say that it had no issues keep the frames flowing at a comfortable clip. The future is bright, people.Aava Mobile's Intel Moorestown prototype plays World of Warcraft beautifully (video) originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 05 Jun 2010 10:02:00 EST. Posted on June 2, 2010 | No Comments
Gather round, everyone! It's time for this week's edition of "Good news, bad news" -- only this week, "bad news" is being supplanted by "terrible news".
The good news: As we touched upon earlier, AT&T has finally confirmed that iPhone tethering will launch this summer.
The badterrible news: You'd have to be pretty crazy to bother with it. -

Rumor: Samsung to launch the Android-powered Galaxy S superphone in 110 countries simultaneously
Posted on June 1, 2010 | No CommentsIn the grand world of electronics, it’s pretty much customary to launch in one country, wait a few days, launch in another, and so on. At most, companies launch their new toys in two or three countries at a time – it’s just really the only sane way to do it, you know? Remind me not [...] -

UJAM Turns Whistling, Humming, And Even Tone-Deaf Singing Into Musical Masterpieces
Posted on May 24, 2010 | No Comments
We all have them: those brief, spontaneous little melodies that pop into the back of our heads, undoubtedly destined for greatness if only we had an ounce of musical talent or a five piece band at our disposal. Well, now you wannabe-maestros have your chance. UJAM is a new startup making its debut today at TechCrunch Disrupt that can turn your humming, whistling, kazoo-playing or not-so-in-tune vocals into something people might actually want to listen to. And it's really, really cool.
There's plenty of advanced technology working in the background, but to the user, the site really seems like magic. Whistle a few notes of 'Ode to Joy', and in seconds you'll hear your tune played back by a grand piano. Or an electric guitar. Or a full orchestra, complete with sweeping crescendos that somehow fit your tune perfectly. You can swap between these options in a few clicks, tweaking the results until they suit your fancy. If you happen to sing a few notes out of key, UJam will fix them for you. And if you play an instrument (or at least, try to), you can also use this to quickly turn your one-man show into a full band.

Google TV Unveiled. It’s All About The Ad Reach
Posted on May 20, 2010 | No CommentsToday at Google I/O, the company made the announcement that everyone was waiting for — Google TV. While some glitches in the demo (with the Bluetooth keyboard) prevented it from being a “wow” moment, the implications are pretty clear what Google is going for. That is, the 4 billion TV users worldwide. Or rather, advertising [...] -
AT&T to cover about 250M people with HSPA+ by year’s end
Posted on May 14, 2010 | No Comments
AT&T has changed its story on its 3.5G / 3.75G strategy prior to rolling out LTE seemingly countless times in the past couple years, but the good news is that the latest policy shift is a decidedly positive one: it intends to cover about 250 million Americans in speedy (well, hopefully speedy) HSPA+ by the end of 2010. The remarks came today from AT&T Operations CEO John Stankey at a Reuters event, going on to say that the company intends to "double" its theoretical 7.2Mbps maximum on HSPA; it seems almost certain that the move is in response to T-Mobile's aggressive moves into 21Mbps territory recently -- not to mention commercial WiMAX availability on Sprint and the impending launch of a handful of LTE markets on Verizon -- but realistically HSPA+ on AT&T could easily run anywhere between 7.2 and 14.4Mbps depending on market, backhaul capacity, and countless other factors. Works out well for a presumed iPhone launch, doesn't it?AT&T to cover about 250M people with HSPA+ by year's end originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 14 May 2010 16:39:00 EST. BookLover is a $0.99 app for the iPhone for people who love books. It looks at first glance like an iPhone version of Delicious Library, which I've never used. You can organize books -- complete with book cover art and in some cases a synopsis -- on your virtual bookshelf. You can take notes on books you've read, or perhaps jot a note reminding you about who you loaned your copy to. You can post your notes directly to your FaceBook wall or email them to a friend. And BookLover can recommend other books for you to read.
