BBC Wildlife magazine shares secrets online

One great thing about the internet is the number of people offering advice. Of course, sometimes you need to take that advice with a grain of salt, but photography advice is usually safe. Case in point; BBC’s Wildlife Magazine published a series of Photo Masterclasses in 2006/2007. The information still holds true now (theory rarely [...]

Sausage iPhone stylus shipping to US

You may have seen the “Sausage Finger” iPhone photos making the rounds early last month. I could have sworn we posted it but I can’t seem to find it. Anyhoo, it was a photo of two guys on a South Korean subway car using little sausages to manipulate their iPhones while wearing gloves. Everyone had a chuckle and then we all moved on—UNTIL NOW!

Wish your iPhone was higher in sodium and preservatives? The TV Dinner iPhone case can help.

I was tempted to just post the photo above with “That is all.” as the text – but I suppose that’s not very helpful. Looking to fill the needs of the massive “People who want an iPhone slip case, but really, really like TV dinners” crowd, Etsy seller Coolbeans717 has been hand-cranking out these Hungry Man-inspired [...]

TV antenna disguised as picture frame

Long range over-the-air HDTV antennas can get mighty unsightly and expensive. Clixxun’s “Fancy Alpha” attempts to stem that tide with a $40 TV antenna that’s disguised as an unassuming picture frame.

Remeber that post about the wire shoe thing?

Exciting news, friends. I've just come back from the future, and I have some news to share. In the year 2050, the United Nations will hold a "Remember Blogging?" panel, and it will be chaired by the encapsulated head, à la Futurama, of Cory Doctorow. There will come a time in the panel when Doctorow's head turns and says, "Now, blogging wasn't all shits and giggles. Some of it was truly dreadful. Par example..." This will all be done in Mandarin Chinese, of course, which replaced English as the lingua franca of the world in 2035. Anyhow, Doctoro's head will say, "You see, I seem to remember a post on reasonably popular tech blog CrunchGear that described some sort of wire-frame shoe. It was rubbish."

Your view doesn’t compare to the new view from the International Space Station

Where do you live? Columbus? Miami? Paris? Lisbon? Cool, good for you. And I bet you have a nice view of your city’s park or monument, too. That’s fine, but your view doesn’t even compare to this. It’s a photo from the shiny, new observation deck of the International Space Station. That’s the Sahara Desert [...]

Nooka Augmented Reality Accessorizer: Not real but it should be

Nooka is one of our favorite brands and these guys created a new way to try on a Nooka watch at home. By using augmented reality technologies - albeit technology that may not work quite yet - you can try on any watch just by putting on a specially coded bracelet. The system senses the position of your hand and lets the Nooka watch appear in 3D right on your wrist. It's honestly an amazing idea and someone better patent it before Trojan and Victoria's Secret get their hands on it. Click through for video.

  • Asus has the first Nvidia Optimus laptops~!

Asus has the first Nvidia Optimus laptops~!

Kudos, I guess, to Asus, being the first manufacturer to incorporate Nvidia's Optimus technology into actual products. The Taiwan-based company has announced five laptops (note: I refuse to use the term "notebook" when referring to laptops; I think the name "netbook" is dumb, too, so at least I'm consistent) that range in size from 13.3 inches to 17.3 inches, all of which use Optimus. "What is Optimus?" I'm glad you asked! It switches between the Nvidia GPU and the Intel integrated GPU as the situation warrants. So, using Firefox? Let the Intel handle it. Playing World of Warcraft? Nvidia takes over. It's not too hard to understand.

CrunchDeals: 50 piece Chicken McNuggets bucket for $10 this weekend

Now THAT is a lot of Chicken McNuggets. Like, so many that the Hamburglar might actually consider a) switching briefly to chicken instead of hamburgers and b) paying the $10 instead of going to all the trouble of trying to conceal a gigantic bucket of chicken under his cape. And just to give you a head [...]

The iPad may not have a camera, but it sure thinks it does

Surprised that the iPad doesn't have a camera? Yeah, so are we - and if these screenshots of the just-released iPad emulator are any indication, so is someone on Apple's software development team. Tucked away within the iPad's contacts application is an "Add Photo" button, purposed with.. well, adding photos. Everyone likes having photos assigned to their contacts, and there's more than enough space on this thing to sync photos of all your friends - so nothing too strange there. What is odd, however, is the prompt that pops up:

Does a frozen camera improve its ISO capabilities? 4Chan says so.

Please, take this advice lightly. It came from the bowels of 4Chan, after all. But it seems that a user froze his Sony A350 DSLR and actually got better results when shooting at ISO 3200. The results he posted seem to validate his results, but once again, this is from 4Chan home of everything that is vile, rotten and antisocial on the Internet.
