Good news, Palm fans! If you've taken a break from jamming on the "Update" button, it's time to go tap it one last time: the rollout of webOS 1.4 has just begun. The catch: it seems that it's only for Sprint handsets right now, with the Verizon Pre Plus and Pixi Plus still reporting that 1.3 is the latest release.

Don’t Panic! Palm isn’t halting production of anything

Everybody panic! Actually, don't.
A number of blogs are reporting on a story by OTR Global claiming that Palm has suddenly told Foxconn (the Taiwanese manufacturer building all of Palm's handsets) to halt production of the Pre, Pre Plus, and Pixi Plus. This claim, it seems, is greatly exaggerated.

By the time Palm announced the Pixi Plus and Pre Plus at CES earlier this month, there wasn't a whole lot left to reveal. From the names, to the specs, all the way down to the carrier the handsets would launch on -- just about everything had made it into the realm of public knowledge by way of the rumor mill.
However, there was at least one feature that Palm managed to keep hidden up their sleeve: Mobile HotSpot. With the flick of a switch, the Mobile Hotspot application turns the Pre Plus or Pixi Plus into a WiFi router for up to 5 users simultaneously, fueled by Verizon's 3G network. We've spent the last few hours tinkering with a pre-release copy of Mobile HotSpot - read on for our impressions.

Someone's gotta help Palm out. After the somewhat lukewarm response to the Pixi and the Pre, it's rather surprising that Verizon would decide to place a big order. Word is though, that's exactly what they did.

Posted on December 30, 2009 | No CommentsWe've alluded to this a couple times already, but Boy Genius Report is coming out today and saying that Verizon's webOS launch devices early next year will indeed be called the "Pre Plus" and "Pixi Plus." We're able to independently confirm that this is the intel out in the field right now -- so unless Big Red calls an audible, these are the names you should be keeping an eye on as you're scanning the shelves. The report goes on to say that Verizon's models are the same size as Sprint's, but as we've already seen in the FCC, these new versions are going to be supercharged in one way or another -- at the very least, the Pixi should have WiFi on board, a welcome boost. Any way you slice it, it sure looks like Sprint got the short end of this stick, doesn't it?

Verizon loading up on 600,000 Pixis soon?
Posted on December 29, 2009 | No CommentsVerizon's intro of webOS equipment is probably going to come out as one of Big Red's most ballyhooed moves of early 2010 -- but to support a launch of that magnitude, you need phones ready and waiting to go. To that end, Palm had been rumored to have 800,000 Pixis (or Pixi Pluses, depending on how these things are going to be marketed) on order from ODM Compal for delivery this quarter, but that number has apparently been revised down to 600,000 for delivery in the first quarter of next year on news that the units had failed some of Verizon's tests. Verizon begins internal webOS training
Posted on December 16, 2009 | No CommentsWe always knew Palm would be bringing the Pre to Verizon sometime in early 2010, and it looks like preparations are underway: check out this leaked internal training slide, which describes a 20-minute Palm / webOS training that runs until January 4th. Interestingly, that's the day before CES, so we're guessing we'll be hearing something about all this during Palm's CES event -- and if we had to guess, we'd wager that that updated Pixi with WiFi will somehow figure into the mix as well.
