Posted on June 14, 2010 | No Comments
With the release of Rock Band 3, there's the inevitable flood of third party peripherals (many better quality then the ones that come with the game). Mad Catz announced their latest line of products, including a wireless keyboard, a Fender Mustang Pro controller, and a MIDI adapter that'll let a musician use their real keyboard to play the Rock Band 3 game.

Lord of the Rings Online will be free to play this fall
Posted on June 4, 2010 | No CommentsMy inbox in the morning is usually filled with a good degree of nonsense. "Look, it's an iPod dock in the shape of a protozoa!" No thanks, not interested. But this! This is big. Beginning with this fall's expansion, Lord of the Rings Online, the MMO developed by Turbine, will be totally free to play! Meaning, you download the game for free and can play online for free. Free as in beer, folks.

Sony: 3D will really shine once the games start hitting it off
Posted on May 26, 2010 | No Comments"Not a fan of 3D movies? Wait till you play 3D games, that's when the technology will really shine." Not an exact quote, but that's the spirit of what Sony Computer Entertainment Europe President Andrew House said in a recent interview. The idea is that, OK, 3D movies may be just sorta there, but it's sitting there and playing something like WipeOut HD in 3D where you'll really gain an appreciation for the medium.

There will be a Mass Effect movie. Will Lost’s Matthew Fox play Commander Shepard?
Posted on May 25, 2010 | No CommentsIt's takes a special type of nerd to read a video game's novelization, and I'm none too proud to say that I recently started reading the Mass Effect novel. But there's a certain quiet dignity in reading a novelization that simply isn't present when sitting at the multiplex (or downloading the Blu-ray rip, as it were) watching a movie. Get ready: EA has sold the movie rights to Mass Effect, and it's gone to Legendary Pictures, the same people behind The Dark Knight, Watchmen, and The Hangover. So there's hope the movie won't be total dross.

Did Gaikai just make World of Warcraft on the iPad possible?
Posted on May 3, 2010 | No CommentsThis photo allegedly shows the World of Warcraft login screen running on an iPad thanks to a service called Gaikai. Gaikai, from the looks of it, works like OnLive or OTOY in that it runs the game on their hardware, then streams it to you over the Internet. Sure it does...

Is 3 Call of Duty games in less than 2 years overkill? If not, it’s awfully close.
Posted on April 22, 2010 | No CommentsSimply amazing. Just totally, out-of-this-world amazing. Activision is said to be working on no less than three new Call of Duty games, to be released before 2012. That's three games in less than two years. You'd think that Activision learned its lesson with Guitar Hero. Remember when Guitar Hero was white-hot in 2007? The game was everywhere! Now? Is there anybody left on the planet who has any interest in the game, or the genre as a whole?

Sony files patent for degradable video game demo
Posted on March 5, 2010 | No CommentsSony has filed a patent for a new type of video game demo that's worth mentioning here. Rather than your typical demo, where they give you level to mess around with, they essentially give you the whole game. As you play the demo, the game "disappears."

Activision calls DJ Hero but a ‘first step’ in expanding the music game genre beyond rock
Posted on November 6, 2009 | No CommentsHere's comes another DJ Hero story. Activision called the game's launch “successful” at a conference call yesterday, saying that the game represents a “first step toward diversifying beyond rock” and into other genres, like hip hop and electronic music. In other words, the game's soft sales aren't necessarily a cause for alarm (if you were ever concerned in the first place).
