Photos and videos: CrunchGear visits Japan’s biggest Otaku party (CGM Night)

Japan's most famous Otaku culture blogger Danny Choo invited video games/anime/manga/Cosplay/figures/maid cafe fanatics from all over the country last weekend, and about 200 showed up at Digital Hollywood University for the eighth "CGM Night" (here's my report on the last one). The idea is to bring Otaku and geeks out of their rooms and socialize among people of their kind. Needless to say, I was one of them (I live in Tokyo).

Fart Battles for iPhone. It’s what’s inside that counts!

There’s not much to say about this new iPhone app created by Popkiller Games that isn’t covered in their youtube promotional video (see below). The bottom (ooof) line is that you need this app because, well, you fart! The app measures and categorizes a plethora of data on each fart and stores audio samples in your very own [...]

Sony Ericsson outs their first full-touch Walkman-branded feature phone: Yendo

You know, not all of us want a smart phone. There are people out there who only use a mobile to make calls, send texts, and listen to a few tunes. They're not the ones reading this blog, though. Maybe you know one of them and want to pass this information on? Anyway, Sony Ericsson today announced (alongside their next Android handset, the X8) their first ever full-touch, Walkman-branded, probably-not-very-expensive, feature-phone: the Yendo.

More BlackBerry Bold 9800 pics surface: AT&T and virtual keyboard in, SurePress out?

You might've been intrigued by the previous show of the BlackBerry Bold 9800 slider, but this new series of images blows those all out of water. The Berry Fix has a plethora of pics for your perusal, chief among them a showing of the virtual keyboard to complement the physical QWERTY. We gotta say, every announce of good design sense lost on the 9670 must have been spent on this guy; we're really intrigued by this one. If that wasn't enough, we've got two more details that'll tickle your fancy: an AT&T splash screen for one, and claims from the article's author (via Twitter) that RIM's not using SurePress here. That'd actually be quite a relief, but until we get our hands on the sucker, let's just curb our enthusiasm, mkay?

  • Review: SugarSync for the iPad

    Review: SugarSync for the iPad

I've been wondering how, exactly, I'll be able to do work on my iPad. With the assistance of programs like Dropbox and SugarSync, it is possible to cobble together a workflow that doesn't drive me crazy. When I last looked at SugarSync the service was in it's infancy and I found it slightly lacking. All of my concerns, two years ago, have been address and now you have a fully versioned storage system that you can use to feasibly upload a plethora of files including, but not limited to, MP3s, videos, and documents. Audio and video files, for the most part, played natively on the iPad. However, if you need to transfer odd formats or edit Office or iWork documents (you can view them just fine) you'll need to email the files to yourself and them open them in Pages. This two step process, while upsetting to those afraid of more than one step, is frustrating at worst and a non-issue at best.

CrunchGear visits the Tsukumo Robot Kingdom in Akihabara (photo report)

It's been over four months since I last paid a visit to a robot store in Akihabara/Tokyo, namely the Vstone flagship store. But I have to say the Tsukumo Robot Kingdom [JP] is much cooler, mainly because the shop is larger and offers more robots than its rival. The Robot Kingdom is located on the 4th floor of the Tsukumo PC Store II in central Akihabara.
