Motorola Droid and Dell Adamo latest to get Gorilla glass
Posted on December 23, 2009 | No CommentsCorning's darn-near-impenetrable Gorilla glass certainly isn't new -- in fact, we spied it in a few of Motion Computing's tablets just a few months ago -- but it's still not commonplace on mainstream gizmos. Yet. SmartPlanet sat down with Dr. Donnell Walton, senior applications engineer at Corning, in order to discuss the merits of the display technology as well as its importance in the gadget space. The discussion also mentioned that both Motorola's Droid and Dell's Adamo (not to mention Cowon's S9 PMP) are sporting the glass, which acts to make displays "damage-resistant." Not surprisingly, the company is seeing huge demand in the smartphone arena, where touchscreen-centric phones are being shoved into pockets at random and then costing manufacturers big bucks as return rates creep up. It's a pretty interesting read if you're into that type of thing, and yes, we did just give you permission to try and split your Droid display wide open in a moment of frustration. Just don't count on Motorola to accept that as a valid excuse for your RMA.

Bag Week Review Round-up
Posted on December 21, 2009 | No CommentsWow, we just burned through 14 bags over the last seven days. We looked at dual-purpose bags, weather-proof backpacks, camera satchels, and even went hands-on with a bag worthy of Batman. Hopefully you were introduced to a few new options. There is no reason why you should still be using that laptop briefcase you uncle [...] -
Bag Week: Crumpler King Single
Posted on December 18, 2009 | No Comments
The Crumpler King Single is a laptop backpack with a low profile. That's not to say it won't draw attention; the color and styling is hard to miss, but the design holds your laptop and your stuff close to your center mass.

Heated portable chair costs $120, makes being outside slightly less miserable
Posted on December 10, 2009 | No Comments
If you've ever spent an extended period of time outside during the late fall or winter watching some sort of parade, sporting event, or interpretive dance, you'll have no doubt A) had plenty of time to re-examine your life and B) wished you’d brought a chair. Now add C) to that list: wished the chair you didn’t bring was heated.

This season, crazy monkey shoes are the new hotness at the Chrome OS event
Posted on November 19, 2009 | No Comments
Velcome, darling! Look what we have for you! Sergey Brin wearing VFF KSOs, CrunchGear's favorite, as Greg calls them, "crazy monkey shoes." I'm personally a VFF convert and I'm very impressed that Sergey is willing to walk around in these.
Embiggen after the jump.

Thank you, Columbus, Ohio!
Posted on November 10, 2009 | No Comments
If you weren't at the Surly Girl Saloon last night for the Columbus CrunchGear meetup, then you were somewhere else! You missed John sporting a new pair of Onion Goggles. You missed a nerd-a-thon comparing the Droid, HD2, iPhone, Dream, and whatever other handhelds folks could dig out of their pockets. And you missed an opportunity to put your grubby paws on not only the TwitterPeek but also the Nokia Booklet!

Motorola Droid already getting accessorized
Posted on October 20, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Motorola, Verizon Wireless, Accessories
If there's one thing that's sure to break a new Droid owner's heart, it's scratching the hell out of it -- or worse yet, dropping it to its untimely death. Wouldn't that be a tragedy? Of course, one quick and dirty way to avoid a lot of that heartache is to equip your phone with a beefy protective case, and from what we're seeing here, it looks like there won't be any problem whatsoever finding such cases on day one of the Droid's availability (whenever that happens to be). What we've got here is a third-party case (excuse us -- "carrying solution") that's popped up over at Best Buy Mobile, though interestingly, the Droid's model number of A855 is being featured far more prominently than the catchy name itself. Given the look of this thing, we think you'll need to have an extreme dedication to preserving your phone's rugged handsomeness to actually equip it, but hey, more power to you -- meanwhile, we'll carry on with letting our phones rustle around with coins, keys, pens, and switchblades in our pockets.

Keychain-friendly screwdriver set actually looks somewhat useful
Posted on September 14, 2009 | No Comments
Putting a screwdriver on a keychain isn’t an entirely new concept, but these “heat treated blackened steel” screwdrivers with the flattened heads look like they might actually work pretty well in a pinch, even on otherwise stubborn screws.

Mouse pad enthusiasts, this is your bag
Posted on September 11, 2009 | No Comments
Hey guys. Hanging out on a pile of rocks with your laptop bags, huh? Can I join you? No? Why, because I don’t have my own laptop bag? Ah, I see. Laptop Bag Owners Club members only, eh? Tough but fair. If I buy one of those bags can I join you? No? Ah, I see. The Laptop Bag Owners Club is also known as the No Dougs Club, too. Gotcha. What if I change my first na—just no? No, in general, no matter what? Okay, thanks anyway.

Belarus officially supports radiation-proof cellphone pockets for kids
Posted on August 14, 2009 | No Comments
You and I both know that the only way to prevent dangerous EF radiation is by wrapping your cellphone in cling-film and aluminum foil and then battering it and frying it in cornmeal. The resulting phonedog is safe and delicious.
Sadly, the Belarussian government is instead depending on specially lined pockets in school uniforms that will keep radiation away from the kids special body parts.

Emergency iPhone charger measures just 1cm thick
Posted on August 7, 2009 | No Comments
This thing's slim, I tell you. Slim. At just one centimeter thick, the "Ultra Slim (Card Type) Emergency Charger for iPod / iPhone" over at USB Fever might find its way into a few pockets when it's released on August 23rd.

If your pockets are just beggin' to be filled with an HTC Hero, your options thus far (assuming you're in the US) have been limited. You could
