DIYer combines iPhone 3GS with Show WX for pico projected gaming bliss (video)

digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gadgets/Worlds_First_Pico_Projector_iPhone_Camera'; The Moject project proved that smartphones and pico projectors do indeed have a thing for one another, but Ethan Janson has taken things one step further with an unnamed contraption that holds his iPhone 3GS, a Microvision Show WX and an "ancient" point-and-shoot camera. Put simply, the handmade thingamajig allows him to play his iPhone games on a far larger screen, and since the Show WX continually autofocuses regardless of distance from walls, there's never a blurring issue when flailing about in order to control the gameplay. The full skinny is down there in the source, but shortcut takers can head straight past the break for a video.

    [Thanks, Ethan]

  • DIY: Put your P&S digital camera into something a bit more classy

DIY: Put your P&S digital camera into something a bit more classy

Modern cameras (for the most part) lack the soul and feeling that classic film cameras brought to the table. But what if you could take the insides out of a point and shoot, and somehow put them inside a film camera body?

  • Casio’s GPS camera coming in October

Casio’s GPS camera coming in October

I don't get GPS in cameras. There have been times (not many, but there have) when I've been out taking pictures and don't necessarily want the whole world to know where I was. Casio's new EX-10HG camera is going to take that option away from me, with their new GPS-enabled point and shoot camera.

GR DIGITAL III × STUSSY: Ricoh unveils limited edition point-and-shoot camera

It's Stussy's 30th birthday next year, and for some strange reason the fashion company collaborated with Japanese electronics maker Ricoh to celebrate the occasion in the form of a Stussy-branded digital camera [JP]. Technically, Ricoh didn't change anything in the GR DIGITAL III the Stussy camera is based on (and which was released in August this year), meaning the new exterior design will most likely attract hardcore Stussy fans or camera collectors only.

  • Thank you, Canon, for dropping out of the megapixel race

Thank you, Canon, for dropping out of the megapixel race

The average mom and pop have judged digital cameras by megapixels alone since the beginning of time. Most people think that more megapixels means a better picture. A lot of the time brand, lens, or sensor type doesn't factor into the buying decision and why should they? Manufacturers have long catered to this mentality by outing cameras that constantly have more megapixels than others. But today's announcement of the 10MP Canon G11 point and shoot camera, Canon has officially dropped out of the race. The predecessor to this camera, the G10, had a whopping 14.7MP on a small sensor. That's a lot. But the camera also had issues shooting above 800 ISO and in low light. This can partly be blamed on the over-packed sensor. But the new G11's 10MP sensor should resolve some of those complaints. However, the surprisingly low pixel count also caused us to dismiss an early leak. It's not like Canon to drop the megapixel count on one of its halo cameras. This is from the same company that stuffed 21MP into the EOS 5D Mark II and leapfrogged the 12.1MP Nikon D700. But finally the average consumer might start to understand that megapixels are not the sole factor in the quality of a camera. It might take some explaining from a salesmen, but they have been doing that for years.
