Sony Ericsson scoops a new CTO
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No Comments
Seems like it was just last year that Sony Ericsson was replacing its CTO -- oh, that's because it was last year! For reasons unknown, the company is repeating history already -- and this time looking outside its own workforce (but just barely) by heading over to parent Ericsson to nab Jan Uddenfeldt, who current holds the roles of senior vice president and senior technology advisor there. Uddenfeldt's based in San Jose, which means it'll be a short jaunt to his new office in Redwood Shores where he'll pick up the duties come July 1. We'd mentioned last year that we'd hoped that having an Americas-focused CTO at the company would mean wild new things for its US presence, but that dream hasn't really materialized yet; here's hoping.Sony Ericsson scoops a new CTO originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Wed, 02 Jun 2010 10:31:00 EST. Exciting interview: UFC’s Chuck Liddell talks Reebok ZigTech, his MMA future and the Apple iPad. Yes, the iPad.
Posted on April 15, 2010 | No CommentsI had myself a bit of a field trip yesterday, going over to Reebok’s fancy gym on Columbus Avenue in New York to try out their new ZigTech shoes. The name alone implies, well, tech, which would explain my presence there. Bonus: I got to interview former UFC light heavyweight Chuck Liddell. Truly an [...] -

Acer recently announced its growing presence in the Android realm and Rogers was quick to snap up the manufacturer's latest device - the Liquid e. If you can get past the drug-related name, the handset doesn't seem to sound so bad on paper.

Recyclable mannequin robots
Posted on January 7, 2010 | No CommentsWe have seen mannequin robots already, machines that may sometime replace real models in fashion shows and similar events. Needless to say that the company behind those robots is based in Japan. And it was clear that the first robot maker marketing a new line of robots as "recyclable" would come out of the same country, too. And Osaka-based Eager [JP] is combining both ideas by offering recyclable mannequin robots.

HTC Legend still looking good — as a render, anyway
Posted on December 13, 2009 | No CommentsWe got a pretty good glimpse of HTC's rumored Legend back in that huge roadmap leak a few days back, but now we're circling back for a better shot (and a few more details) of the probable Hero successor in all its roughly-rendered glory. High-end aficionados are probably still going to want to set their sights on the Bravo (or the Google Phone, Nexus One, Passion, what have you), but this sucker won't be a slouch, either -- it looks like it's signed up for a 600MHz MSM7227 and, more importantly, a WVGA display. We'd already known this from the last leak, but what's new here is the presence of HTC People II and Footprints II, suggesting that Sense is going to get some sort of refresh to commemorate the launch. Add in the alleged metal casing, and we bet this thing's gonna be a looker in the flesh; needless to say, March can't come soon enough.HTC Legend still looking good -- as a render, anyway originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 13 Dec 2009 14:25:00 EST. Mototorola Sholes Tablet detailed, sounds as tasty as we’d hoped
Posted on December 2, 2009 | No CommentsKnowing what we now know of the Droid -- codename Sholes -- the mere mental image of that "Sholes Tablet" that we've been hearing about for a while brings us to our geeky knees. Taiwanese forum Mobile01 seems to have details on just what the Sholes Tablet is all about, and while we'd normally be skeptical to the point of dismissal, the presence of a few believable-looking images has us on the bandwagon. The biggies on the rumored spec sheet include HDMI out, 720p video recording paired to an 8 megapixel cam (which is hopefully of much, much higher quality than the Droid's miserable 5) with xenon flash, and Motorola's own CrystalTalk tech for background noise reduction on calls. It'll apparently be running Android 2.0 -- the presence of BLUR is unknown -- and the screen is a predictably awesome 3.7 inches at WVGA resolution with multitouch support; missing, as the name suggests, is the original's sliding QWERTY keyboard. All signs point to use seeing this in the next few months, so enjoy those Droids and Milestones while you can, yeah?Mototorola Sholes Tablet detailed, sounds as tasty as we'd hoped originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 02 Dec 2009 12:49:00 EST. Dell Mini 3i officially set for imminent launch in Brazil and China
Posted on November 13, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Others, China Mobile, Android
It would appear those leaked and unintentional early peeks at Dell's first foray into smartphones did not happen in Brazil and China by accident. Hans Erickson of Dell Latin America has announced the decision to "give priority" to those two countries, who will be first to experience the Mini 3i's Android glory, with China receiving devices "in the coming days" and Brazil getting 'em later this year. Interestingly, China Mobile will be making do without 3G, while Brazil's Claro will be offering a 3G-enabled handset. Dell remains mum on pricing and the rest of the spec, though all the information so far indicates that Brazilians will be able to buy the same WiFi-packing FCC-certified 3iX handset that's heading to the US. Either way, we've got another heavyweight's presence in the smartphone market, and we'll be even happier once we know what Dell's value-add will be.
