    What it lacks in raw power and display size, Sony Ericsson's X10 mini may very well make up in sheer cuteness -- and if you're into that sort of thing, you'll be delighted to know that the phone is now on sale in the UK. Carphone Warehouse is retailing the phone for free on plans as little as £15 ($21.55) a month -- and it's available on T-Mobile, 3, Orange, and Vodafone -- or £249.95 ($359) if you just want to buy the phone outright. You won't get Eclair or Froyo out of the gate -- but then again, when you're buying a phone that elicits responses of "awww" every time you pull it out of your pocket, up-to-date software probably isn't a priority.

    This wouldn't be the first time we've heard of Android being lovingly grafted onto Nokia's N900, but this looks to be the most proactive effort yet to get it functional enough for lay N900 users (read: us) to actually install. Eclair's now up and running on the device, complete with both keyboard and touchscreen support -- important fundamentals, we reckon -- and it looks like there's enough chatter on the subject going on over in Maemo's official forums to keep this ball rolling. Everything's being managed under the so-called NITDroid project that aims to get Android ready to roll on both the N900 and the N8x0 series of tablets, so feel free to chip in some advice if you like -- a functional radio stack would have to be high on the priority list, you can bet. Follow the break for a little video of brilliant hackery in action.

    First, the good news: T-Mobile's HD2 is in stock online and apparently at many corporate-owned retail locations. Now, the bad: the carrier seems to be putting these things on lockdown right now, only offering them to new customers signing up for a fresh contract. This is a tactic T-Mobile has applied in the past, so we're not terribly surprised to see them do it here, too -- but it's still a disappointment, especially considering that the phone has been out for a few weeks now. Just goes to show you that a net add is worth considerably more than a loyal customer is (particularly one who's still under contract), but in the meantime, might we recommend the iHTC HD2?

    Update: We've received an official statement from T-Mobile on the matter, and it sounds like they're "giving priority to existing customers" with new inventory coming in. Sweet! Here's the full verbiage:
    "T-Mobile understands the inventory challenges for the HTC HD2 and continues to work diligently in order to supply our customers with this highly popular product. As we receive additional inventory of the HTC HD2, we are giving priority to our existing customers. However, the demand for the device is still exceeding our supply.

    Depending on the location, some T-Mobile retail stores may still have some HTC HD2 inventory available. We suggest that interested customers contact their local T-Mobile store via phone before visiting to see if they have the HTC HD2 available. If they do not have the HTC HD2 available, some stores are taking names and contact information, and will be able to notify customers once that location has product available."

    Rumors have run rampant that the head of Motorola's soon-to-be-independent Mobile Devices division, Sanjay Jha, has plans to high-tail back to the Californian home from whence he came (where his family still resides, coincidentally) once the split wraps up. That may still be the case, but it looks like it's not necessarily happening any time soon coming off comments this week from the dude himself. In comments to shareholders on Monday, Jha said that "the mobile devices headquarters is in [Chicago suburb] Libertyville, and that will continue at the point of the split," qualifying the statement by saying that he'd "evaluate [their] needs" afterward but that doesn't "know" that relocating the business "is a driving priority right now." Moving the business clearly has personal benefits for Jha -- not to mention likely brings a refreshed Motorola access to a greater pool of high-tech talent in the Valley -- but regardless of what happens, he says that he doesn't think the company will "dramatically change [its] space in Chicago." Might not be a bad idea to fly all the engineers away from those nasty Chicago winters for a couple months, anyway, right?

    It would appear those leaked and unintentional early peeks at Dell's first foray into smartphones did not happen in Brazil and China by accident. Hans Erickson of Dell Latin America has announced the decision to "give priority" to those two countries, who will be first to experience the Mini 3i's Android glory, with China receiving devices "in the coming days" and Brazil getting 'em later this year. Interestingly, China Mobile will be making do without 3G, while Brazil's Claro will be offering a 3G-enabled handset. Dell remains mum on pricing and the rest of the spec, though all the information so far indicates that Brazilians will be able to buy the same WiFi-packing FCC-certified 3iX handset that's heading to the US. Either way, we've got another heavyweight's presence in the smartphone market, and we'll be even happier once we know what Dell's value-add will be.

    If you've never eaten at Chipotle, you don't know what you're missing. Really - make it a priority. They're the only restaurant I've ever gone out of my way to contact, just to say "Hey! You should really open up a location in my town". I'm confident that I could singlehandedly eat that place into a profit. Now its gotten even better. Next time I head up to the Bay Area, I don't even have to talk to anyone to get one of these little burrito bundles of joy - I'll just use Chipotle's new iPhone app.

    doxie scannerI have an ancient -- and gigantic -- Umax scanner I've been hanging onto for what feels like eternity for the two or three times every year when I need to scan something. My scanner is big, and bulky, and has a power brick about the size of Idaho. It's not very convenient to use. Sure, I could replace it with something else, but really I scan so infrequently that it's just not been a priority. But the newly announced Doxie scanner may be the product to which I upgrade.
