Sanyo releases $50,000 projector with 12,000 lumens brightness

Sanyo has rolled out a number of projectors in the past months, but brightness-wise, their new LP-XF1000 [press release in English] beats them all. The dual lamp projector boasts not less than 12,000 lumens, made possible by two 330W lamps. Needless to say, this is the industry’s highest brightness (in an AC 100V device).

LVP-HC3800: Mitsubishi’s new full HD DLP projector
Posted on October 15, 2009 | No CommentsMitsubishi Electric has announced [JP] the LPV-HC3800 for the Japanese market today, a full HD DLP projector that features a contrast ratio of 3,000:1, 1,200 lumens brightness and a DDP3021 full 10-bit panel driver. The device comes with a 230W lamp that has a lifespan of 5,000 hours and depending on the operating mode, it can be as quiet as 25dB.

Hitachi develops eyeglass-free 3-D projection system
Posted on October 8, 2009 | No CommentsNo pictures for this yet, but Hitachi has reportedly developed a 3D projection system that allows viewers to watch 3D images from any angle, and perhaps more importantly, without the need for eyeglasses. While the first feature makes sure a group of people can see 3D images at the same time on a single screen, I am aware the second one isn't the first of its kind for a 3D system.

There's a good reason for this: The things aren't really a picnic for the eyes, as this example from last month shows. And even established brands like Epson fail to deliver well-designed hardware in this niche. Case in point: Their new dreamio EH-DM30 [JP].

Japanese company develops first original green laser diode

Japan-based Sumitomo Electric Industries has developed the world's first laser that's able to produce "pure" green light (press release in English), meaning its semiconductor laser doesn't need to convert light to green via another color. Until now, original semiconductor lasers were only available for the other primary colors of light, red and blue.

Epson to mass-produce world’s first HTPS-TFT panel

Epson today in Japan said it has begun mass-production of the world's first HTPS-TFT panel (press release in English) boasting WUXGA resolution (1,920 x 1,200 pixels). HTPS stands for high-temperature polysilicon. The company is said to be investing heavily into this technology.
