OCZ just rolled out the deets about its latest PCI-Express-powered SSD and man is it impressive. Forgot about that WD Velociraptor SATA 3.0 drive announced a few minutes ago, the new Z-Drive RS leaves that one back in the Jurassic Period.

Sony VAIO Z Series: Core i7 CPU, four SSDs, 13.1 inches at 3.2 pounds

Carbon fiber, people. That’s the ticket right there. It’s the miracle substance that allows Sony to stuff super fast components into a 13.1-inch laptop while keeping the weight at around 3.2 pounds. And while most ultraportable notebooks favor style over substance, the impending VAIO Z Series due from Sony in March will feature an Intel Core i7 CPU, NVIDIA graphics, 1920x1080 screen resolution, and the ability to stack four solid state drives in a Raid 0 configuration. Again, all at just over three pounds.

OCZ’s 1TB SSD Colossus due out this month for ~$2500

Introduced at Computex in June, the aptly named Colossus 1TB SSD from OCZ is expected to hit store shelves later this month, says Gizmag. The 14.1-ounce 3.5-inch drive claims to have a read speed of 250MB/s and write speeds up to 220MB/s via SATA2. The RAID 0 compliant drive will supposedly hit store shelves later this month for ~$2500.

For high performance drives, SSD seems to be where it's at these days. Corsair is at the forefront of the market, and just announced three new drives that definitely bring speed to the party. Now if they could only increase the capacity without being Extreme!ly expensive.

Now this is a good idea: RAID together four 16GB MicroSDHC cards for a fast, 64GB Compact Flash card. I guess in theory this is an efficient flash memory solution. You get the speed of MicroSDHC spread over four cards that's compatible with high-end, or older, digital cameras. Or it you can finally put all those small MicroSDHC cards to good use.

WD announces the My Book Studio Edition II, Mac-ready and up to 4TB

Today, WD announced the My Book Studio Edition II in a 4TB variety. The RAID 0 configurable dual-drive storage system works with Apple’s Time Machine and has four interfaces: eSATA, FireWire 800/400 and USB 2.0. WD is touting the 4TB behemoth as an eco-friendly product because of the GreenPower drives.

Wow, it seems that someone over at PCWorld.com couldn't keep their mouth shut and announced the Alienware M17x a bit early. No matter, the most important thing is that you see what this baby has under the hood. It's damn impressive and certainly allpowerful.
