Nintendo blames piracy for 50% drop in EU sales

Sales of Nintendo's DS games are dropping in Europe, and according to Nintendo there's clear reason why: piracy. With the release of software like R4, it appears that more and more owners of the portable systems are turning to less then reputable sources for their games.

Apple to Europe: Zut alors! iPad isn’t arriving until May

Because of the rapacious greed of Americans, those in the Euro-zone will not have their iPads until May, at least according to a short release by Apple. Blaming the popularity of the iPad in the US (and potentially some issues with Wi-Fi) , European pre-orders will not arrive in your charming town or hameau until May 10. This goes for the iPad 3G version as well. Apple, always one to toot their own trompette, hoped that Europe is happy to know that the iPad is a "runaway success." Cold comfort, I say.

Gasp! AT&T’s “Unlimited” data plan for the iPad 3G to actually be unlimited

I’m trying to keep the iPad-related posts here on MobileCrunch down to a minimum, because I figure you’re getting enough of it shoved in your face by other blogs, Twitter, and your mother after she saw it mentioned on the news and wanted to bond with you. With that said, this one gets a pass [...]

PAX East 2010: In which we talk to a dude wearing a WWE belt for some reason

OK, so PAX may be crawling with people dressed as Chris Redfield and, um, Generic Skimpy Outfit Female, but it takes a certain kind of geek to walk around with a WWE championship belt. I use the word “geek” with all due respect, of course: we're all geeks here at PAX.

RadioShack looking for a buyer, possibly Best Buy

We could be looking at the end of RadioShack, boys and girls. The company is said to be exploring a strategic partnership, or outright sale, possibly to Best Buy. I don't see why Best Buy would be interested: what does RadioShack sell that's either A) not already available or B) entirely too niche for its Wal-Mart approach to selling consumer electronics?

The SayCool tablet mates a 7-inch multitouch display to Windows XP

There is a steady stream of tablet PCs flowing out of China recently. Most of them are just the same ol' thing, but this SayCool tablet stood out from the rest with a 7-inch capacitive screen that's apparently multitouch capable. Now, the tablet runs Windows XP, which isn't nearly as touch friendly as Win7, but it certainly can be done with the right cocktail of software and hardware.

Video: Samsung explains why their Super AMOLED screen is better than your normal AMOLED screen

Samsung's pretty proud of their Super AMOLED technology - and why shouldn't they be? With next to no fanfare, they managed to knock out the readability issues that plagued AMOLED handsets any time they were within view of the sun. And if vastly improved readability wasn't enough, they went and slimmed the whole thing down into a package considerably tighter than the competition's not-so-sun friendly offerings. Samsung's compiled a nifty little video showing off all the reason why their Super AMOLED displays deserve their name.

Foxconn’s suppliers denies iPad delay rumors (big surprise)

There's been some unfounded rumors swirling around the Internet water cooler the last few days that Apple's initial shipment of iPads will only be around 300,000. That's far less than the expected numbers of 600,000-700,000, which would no doubt cause fanboy riots and shenanigans at Apple Stores nationwide. John called BS on these rumors a few days back and now Foxconn's suppliers has done the same.

The Asus DR-900 ebook reader brings Wi-Fi and 3g to a 9-inch screen

The Kindle DX better watch its back. There's a new 9-inch ebook reader on the bus. The Asus DR-900 offers nearly everything that makes the Kindle DX special, a 9-inch E-ink screen, Wi-Fi, and optional 3G wireless, plus it has an SD card slot for further expansion over the 2GB built-in storage. But none of that matters. The Kindle DX still has something that's more important than those hardware specs. It has access to the Kindle Store.

Google dials down early termination fee for the Nexus One

No one likes early termination fees, but for one reason or another they can become a necessary evil. When Google introduced a new channel for buying the Nexus One, I was excited at the thought of grabbing a phone without being hassled by a retail sales rep. The only downside was that if I bought it at the subsidized price and wanted to cancel within 120 days, Google would charge a $350 device recovery fee... on top of the carrier's cancelation fees!

Amtrak to add Wi-Fi to Acela line in March

I’ve personally taken Amtrak’s high-speed Acela line between Boston and New York more times than I can remember. At 3.5 hours, it’s roughly the same amount of time you’d spend jumping through hoops at the airport but it’s a far less abrasive experience overall. The inclusion of free Wi-Fi ought to add yet another compelling reason to choose trains over planes.
