Skype eager to work with Apple FaceTime, pretty much anyone else
Posted on June 8, 2010 | No CommentsWe're still playing the wait-and-see game when it comes to Skype on webOS and Windows Phone 7, but it looks as if to-be iPhone 4 owners won't have to wait long before Skype-based video chatting becomes a reality... if Skype has its way, that is. According to someone on the inside quoted over at Pocket-Lint, Skype "would welcome the opportunity to work with Apple," specifically in reference to integrating FaceTime capabilities into the firm's own app. The mystery man also affirmed that Skype would "welcome the opportunity to work with Apple to bring mobile video calling not only to our many millions of Skype users on iPhone around the world, but also to the countless more making video calls on desktops, TVs and other connected devices." 'Course, there's no specific time frame given, and only Jobs knows if the two companies have said a word to one another about making this happen. One thing's for sure, though -- enabling FaceTime usage within Skype would suddenly made the iPhone 4's video calling abilities a whole lot more appealing. And by "appealing," we mean "useful."Skype eager to work with Apple FaceTime, pretty much anyone else originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 08 Jun 2010 18:21:00 EST. Aava Virta Android reference platform will be the first shipping Moorestown smartphone
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No CommentsSure, Intel might not be planning for Moorestown-based smartphones to hit the market for at least another six months, and the LG GW990 might have died a quiet death, but that's not stopping Aava from getting right in the game with its Virta Android, an Atom Z600-based reference smartphone designed for developer testing. Slated to ship in Q3, the Virta features a Moorestown processor, a 3.8-inch 864 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, quad-band EDGE radios with AT&T 3G support, WiFi, Bluetooth, a five megapixel video camera, and a microSD slot. We're assuming the shipping version will look a lot like the prototype Aava device we've been seeing for a while now, but Aava has some fancier renders up on its site, so we'll see what happens and how much this costs when this thing arrives.

How to create your own Micro SIM card using a chef knife and some scissors
Posted on May 6, 2010 | No CommentsWe told you you could shave down your old and busted SIM cards and turn them into minty fresh Micro SIMs, didn't we? An industrious Londoner by the name of John Benson has gone and proven that concept with the help of some cutting implements and an original Micro SIM to use as a reference. His saintly patience resulted in his being able to negotiate the Vodafone SIM you see above into his iPad 3G (imported from the USA) and riding the waves of Voda's network as if Apple never decided to encumber its portable device with a silly new standard. The 3FF (Micro) SIMs and the bulkier original ones are electrically identical, so there's no threat of harm by using them interchangeably, though we can't say the same thing about the tools that get you there. As always, we advise trying to rope someone else into doing the work for you -- less chance of hurting yourself that way. Hit the source for more.

Messi: You know you’re good when people compare you to a PlayStation!
Posted on April 7, 2010 | No CommentsHow do you know when you're a great athlete? Oh, I don't know, maybe when the top-tier manager of the opposing team calls you a PlayStation! Like, you're so good it's almost as if someone goes into Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer or EA Sports' FIFA, creates a player, than gives said player 12 out of 10 in all the key stats: speed, attack, technical skill, etc. Leo Messi is like a PlayStation.

China will soon count more mobile Web users than there are people in the US
Posted on March 18, 2010 | No Comments
Not an easy thing to conceptualize indeed, but according to eMarketer there will be more mobile Internet users in China than the entire population of the US by the end of this year.
For your reference, the 2010 estimate of the size of the United States population stands at roughly 310 million people according to Wikipedia, so that's a shitload of people browsing the Web from their phones right there.
The report, which you can purchase here, also says the number of mobile Internet users in China will grow fast to reach a staggering 957 million by 2014.

Apple & Google clash over “Android” in the App Store
Posted on February 5, 2010 | No CommentsAnd the Apple-Google war continues. This time, instead of just bad-mouthing each other, Apple is running with a strategy that they’re no stranger to: censoring words in the App Store. Instead of just “boobs” and “booty”, which they don’t seem to have a problem with anymore, Apple’s new target is the word “Android”. Now, Apple only [...] -

Yes, Rock Band is coming to iPhone. Here’s proof.
Posted on October 7, 2009 | No Comments
A few weeks back, we got a press release from EA's PR company. It was tucked within an attachment titled "Rock Band Verizon iPhone Fact Sheet_V3.docx". As if seeing "iPhone" behind "Verizon" wasn't strange enough, the rest of the press release made absolutely no reference to an iPhone release. The folks we talked to denied that an iPhone port existed, and we chalked it up as a really, really strange typo.
Looks like it was more of a Freudian slip.

No, Microsoft will not buy EA. Just sayin’.
Posted on September 24, 2009 | No CommentsWhere did this rumor that Microsoft wanted to buy EA start? You know what, it doesn't matter where it started, because it's not true. No, Microsoft has no plans to buy EA, so don't sweat the technique ($1 if you get that reference).
