Nokia N8 launching August 24, we hear; Amazon Germany taking €470 pre-orders
Posted on May 21, 2010 | No CommentsWe know, we know, you were banking on taking an N8 with you when you go summering in Cape Cod in July, but that might be a tall order because we're hearing from a trusted source that August 24 has been pegged as the big release date for Nokia's Symbian^3-powered beast. Pricing had already been announced at €370 ($465), but if you're interested in shedding an extra hundred for no apparent reason, Amazon Germany is now officially taking pre-orders for €469.50 ($590) in black -- just one of the five N8 shades Espoo will be pushing around the world. We think we'd recommend holding off on signing up for Amazon's enticing deal here, quite honestly -- especially considering the magnetic attraction we've got to that totally unapologetic orange version.

Rumour: myTouch 3G Slide available for $149 on June 16th

The final pieces of the myTouch 3G Slide launch puzzle -- price and release date -- are beginning to come to light, with Tmo News claiming to have screenshots that show a $149.99 on contract/$399.99 off contract launch price.
While the screenies don't show the release date, Tmo News also claim that it has been pushed back two weeks from the previously thought June 2nd, to June 16th. Tmo News aren't 100% on that information, though, so take it as you will.

HTC EVO 4G training begins at Sprint, reveals a few surprises

The HTC EVO 4G has already turned up in Sprint's inventory, hit the FCC, and pushed away anything in its path, and it looks like it's now hit one more milestone on its way to availability: the all-important Sprint employee training program. While there's still no indication of an actual release date, the training materials do reveal a few new details, including the first real indication that customers who buy the phone will also have to sign up for special "plans designed for the HTC EVO 4G" -- details on those plans remain a mystery, unfortunately. The materials also seem to suggest that both Sprint Navigation and Google Navigation will be present on the device, that the hotspot feature will support WEP and WPA encryption, and that phone does indeed pack an FM radio. The ExoPC’s release date and GPU, everyone

We've been following the ExoPC's development with a bit of curiosity and excitement. It's one of the only tablets, along with the Notion Ink Adam and WePad, that has a chance to grab a bit of marketshare away from the iPad. The ExoPC just got a bit more interesting, too. Blog Geek just got confirmation that the slate will use the Broadcom BCM70012 or Crystal HD, which should have enough juice to provide silky-smooth 1080p HD video playback. Best of all, though, the tablet is set to come out in within a few months.

Remember Sony Japan's unusual promotion campaign for an 8-inch netbook (or ultra-mobile PC, as the Japanese like to call these devices) from December 2008? The target group was amused with the campaign. And it appears the marketing coup helped Sony actually sell the Vaio P, as the company today updated its Japanese site with yet another teaser for yet another "mysterious" netbook.

Videos: WePad’s interface moves oh so smoothly

Anyhow, the device was shown off to the press in Germany earlier today, and several videos demonstrating the interface are now online for our viewing pleasure. It does look mighty slick, but you wonder if that's enough to take on Cupertino's “magical and revolutionary” device.

Google bringing free turn-by-turn navigation to iPhone

Google executives confirmed that the company will soon be delivering turn-by-turn directions to the iPhone. Previously, this free feature was only available to Android smartphone users. This is obviously bad news for GPS hardware companies like TomTom and Magellan, who have their own iPhone apps.
