Reminder: There’s still time to win laptop #2
Posted on June 3, 2010 | No Comments
We had huge response yesterday and I’m pleased to report that it was a rousing success. Today, however, I’m going to allow CrunchGear readers a shot at the prize and, instead of being inundated by good-time Sallies and Salvadores, we’ll just post the offer here. Read on, incidently, for yesterday’s winner.

Reminder: Stargate Universe comes back on tonight
Posted on April 2, 2010 | No Comments
Stargate Universe's season one starts back up tonight and we might finally see some the alien baddies and a space ship fight. The first ten episodes where just OK, but the series shows potential with a good cast, novel story line, and great sets/locations. Those three things also happened to be the three pillars holding up the previous Stargate shows. All SGU needs to do is tone down the seriousness a bit and run a bit more loose. That's what Stargate always did best and truly separated itself from other shows within the genre.

LG Arena made official at AT&T
Posted on February 19, 2010 | No CommentsPart of me feels like saying, "LG Arena! Last stop, AT&T!" After all, this handset has been announced well over a year ago and it's been available in other countries for quite some time. Of course, if you've been keeping up you'll know that Best Buy is getting the Arena very soon for a modest price with a contract. Need a reminder for the perks and features that come with this phone?

Reminder: Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus now available from Verizon
Posted on January 25, 2010 | No CommentsHey! Guess what? The Palm Pixi Plus and Pre Plus are now available for Verizon! You sure as hell wouldn’t know that from looking at Verizon Wireless’ front page today, where there’s no mention of either handset in sight. This “Eh, whatever” launch approach is the same one Verizon took with the BlackBerry Storm [...] -
Happy Birthday, LISA!
Posted on January 19, 2010 | No Comments
Is it ironic that this $10,000 computer only sold 10,000 units? Released on January 19, 1983, LISA (Local Integrated Software Architecture) was a gigantic flop, but paved the way for the success of the Apple Macintosh, which paved the way for the success of the MacBook, which paved the way for the success of the iPhone, which paved the way for the success of the Apple Tablet!

Just a reminder about the GPS in your car right now
Posted on December 7, 2009 | No Comments
Stop to think about this for a minute. Your GPS is on your car's windshield and your garage-door opener is probably on your visor, right? You also probably have the Home location programmed as, well, your home. But what's stopping someone from breaking into your car when you're obviously not home and stealing both of them, which will not only give the crooks turn-by-turn directions to your house but also let them enjoy the privacy of your garage? Are you really trusting Paul Blart and mall security that much?

Monocle offers custom BlackBerry 9700 for the discerning business traveler
Posted on December 3, 2009 | No CommentsLooking for a BlackBerry for yourself or a special someone that's unique but not in a Colorware sort of way? Then you might just want to consider ponying up for this new limited edition BlackBerry 9700 crafted by the folks at Monocle in partnership with RIM. It'll cost you a hefty £950 (or just over $1,500), but that will get you the gift of confidence that this is one of just 100, along with some suitably luxurious touches like a custom leather strap, a reminder of its rarity on the back, Monocle's 25/25 travel guides pre-loaded on the device, a few custom wallpapers, and even a 16GB microSD card thrown in for good measure. Alright, so maybe it's a bit tough to justify the $1,000+ premium, but those ready to throw caution to the wind can expect their order to ship on December 10th.Monocle offers custom BlackBerry 9700 for the discerning business traveler originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 03 Dec 2009 10:38:00 EST. Phil Schiller Grants Interview About Apple’s App Store, Claims Devs Actually Like Approval Process
Posted on November 23, 2009 | No Comments
Phil Schiller, Apple's SVP of Worldwide Product Marketing, is back on his one-man crusade to defend the App Store from the latest wave of criticism pointed in its direction.
This time, Apple is having to battle the news of Facebook's all-star developer Joe Hewitt quitting the platform, more high profile app rejections, and the rise of Android as an increasingly viable alternative to the iPhone. Schiller has granted BusinessWeek's Arik Hesseldahl what the publication says is his first "wide-ranging interview on the matter". Unfortunately, Schiller doesn't really say anything to quell the growing unrest in the developer community — instead, he's offered some finely-tuned PR-speak that will placate the vast majority of iPhone users, who are only vaguely aware of the App Store controversies and just need a reminder that Apple is still one of the good guys. But it may only make developers angrier.

Posted on November 20, 2009 | No CommentsSorry for the short notice but I thought it might be fun to toast to Turkey Day and the launch of our our Gift Guide. I'm teaming up with Cali Lewis of GeekBrief.TV for an impromptu CG meet-up in New York. We'll be meeting at 7pm Friday at Heartland Brewery, 35 Union Square West, in Manhattan. We should be able to commandeer the back of the pub for our purposes.

Oh, BTW: The Verizon BlackBerry Storm2 launched today
Posted on October 28, 2009 | No CommentsWhen we heard the news that the BlackBerry Storm2 would be launching on Verizon on the same day as their much heralded Droid, we got a gut feeling that the Storm2 would fly pretty much under the radar all day. And sure enough, it has. So, let this serve as a reminder for anyone who’s itchin’ [...]
