Panasonic new high-tech massage chair looks very, very comfortable
Posted on March 5, 2010 | No Comments
You could argue massage chairs are something for old people, but after coming to Japan over 5 years ago, I had the chance to relax in more than one of these for a few hours. And let me tell you these chairs, especially those made by Japanese makers, are awesome, provided you don't mind passing out while watching a movie.
The problem is that these massage chairs are usually pretty expensive, just like this new model Panasonic announced [JP] yesterday. The main selling point of the EP-MA70 is the built-in ceramic heater that's supposed to relieve fatigue. Special "balls" are used to heat up your back, waist, shoulders and neck area to up to 40C.

Posted on February 24, 2010 | No Comments
This may very well be the first time I’ve ever seen Brando sell a product from a big name manufacturer. Normally known for whimsical crap gadgets from faraway lands (and I mean that in the best way possible), the web store is now selling the HTPC-friendly Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard for $64.

SmartFish concept aircraft swims in the air

The SmartFish aircraft is a concept vehicle created by an engineering firm in Germany, based on the aerodynamic shape of a fish. So far, they have only built a remote control version of the aircraft, however a prototype is in the works. Hitachi’s develops brain signal-powered remote control
Posted on January 4, 2010 | No Comments
We all knew this would come one day, especially since the basic technology has been around for some time, and now we have it: A brain activity-powered remote control that can be used without you having to lift a finger. The Hitachi device is unfortunately a prototype, but at least they're planning to commercialize it within three to four years.
The technology is being developed not for lazy couch potatoes but for something that actually makes a lot of sense: Hitachi says they would like to see physically handicapped people to use the remote control in the future (think about how many times a day you push buttons on your remote when watching TV).

JO-ZERO: Super-agile, super-cool mini humanoid (video)
Posted on December 30, 2009 | No Comments
A big problem almost any robot nowadays has is limited agility. While this isn't an issue for industrial and other "practical" robots, humanoids can only move in a slow, mechanical and chopping motion. Honda's Asimo, for example, is considered super-advanced, but doesn't move too elegantly either.
But Japan-based Himeji Softworks raises the bar in that area. Their JO-ZERO robot kit shows we haven't reached that Nureyev level of elegance yet either, but it's pretty impressive, especially since it's the brainchild of a small venture. It can break-dance (sort of) and pull off a number of cool stunts.
