Official WinMo 6.5 upgrade for HTC Ozone leaked
Posted on December 31, 2009 | No Comments
Upgrading a Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard device to 6.5 is like putting a fresh coat of paint on your rusted-out '78 Duster, but in the scheme of things, a 6.5 upgrade is still far, far better than a punch in the face. On that note, we're excited to hear that an official update is in the works for Verizon's Ozone from HTC, the CDMA remix of the Snap that launched with 6.1 mere months before 6.5 became widely available. Actually, it's more than "in the works" -- it's available right this very second, just not through any official channels. As usual, it's xda-developers coming through with a copy of the update, so apply it at your own risk; in reality, 6.5 brings very little to the table for Standard handsets, so you shouldn't feel too bad if you wuss out and wait for Verizon to give you the blessed version. Just don't be surprised if you end up waiting half a year for it.Official WinMo 6.5 upgrade for HTC Ozone leaked originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Thu, 31 Dec 2009 22:18:00 EST. Maine mulling cancer warning labels on cellphones, manufacturers mulling warning label on Maine
Posted on December 20, 2009 | No CommentsThe debate on whether mobile phones are slowly turning us into a world of ailment-riddled weaklings rages on in the scientific community, but at least one state may be ready to step up the ominous, non-actionable warnings anyway. A representative in Maine has apparently persuaded her colleagues to let her bring up a proposal during January's session of the state legislature that would require warnings on devices about the alleged link between RF emissions and brain cancer, strongly advising users to keep the devices away from their heads and bodies. At best, this seems premature, and at worst, it runs a risk of breeding a nation of 24 / 7 Bluetooth headset users -- but the politician responsible for the movement seems to have it figured out: she holds her own phone away from her head while using it and turns it off unless she's expecting a call. Could someone in her district please let us know what kind of archaic voice-only device she's using?Maine mulling cancer warning labels on cellphones, manufacturers mulling warning label on Maine originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 20 Dec 2009 20:36:00 EST. Sony Ericsson acknowledges touchscreen issues on Aino
Posted on November 26, 2009 | No CommentsAs if the Aino's odd name wasn't handicap enough, Sony Ericsson's taking another hit on its high-end Remote Play-capable full-touch (but Symbian-free) phone today with news that it's got a dodgy touchscreen. It's unclear exactly what's wrong or how it's ultimately going to get resolved, but several British retailers -- most notably behemoth Carphone Warehouse -- have elected to yank it from shelves until they've gotten confirmation that the mothership has fixed the problem. A company spokesman notes that "Aino has sold in limited numbers in the UK, so this issue affects only a very small number of customers," which is a backhanded way of saying "for once, we're incredibly lucky no one wants this thing" -- though considering that the Satio's on hold now, too, "lucky" might not be the right word for it. For what it's worth, Sony's US SonyStyle store is still hawking Ainos for $600, so part with that six-pack of Benjamins at your own risk.Sony Ericsson acknowledges touchscreen issues on Aino originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 26 Nov 2009 18:19:00 EST. Heated slipper looks downright dangerous
Posted on October 30, 2009 | No Comments
There are a few areas of concern to point out about this $24 “USB Paw Heating Slipper” from Brando. For starters, you're sticking both your feet into one giant slipper. What happens if you get an e-mail saying that there's free bagels in the break room? In your haste to save $2, you could very easily trip and fall down.

Verizon Storm2 on October 28th, BlackBerry OS 5.0 for original Storm out now
Posted on October 26, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Software, RIM, Verizon Wireless, EV-DO, CDMA, BlackBerry OS

If you have an original Storm purchased through Verizon then first, our condolences. At the risk of rubbing it in (since you're still on contract) we have to tell you that the second generation Storm2 -- the full-screen BlackBerry you should have waited for -- just got an official $179.99 (after $100 mail-in rebate and 2-year contract) October 28th release date as expected. Storm owners can, however, take solace in the BlackBerry OS 5.0 update now available for download that boasts several improvements including those keyboard and general usability enhancements we already knew were coming.Verizon Storm2 on October 28th, BlackBerry OS 5.0 for original Storm out now originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 26 Oct 2009 07:17:00 EST. Beware the ‘r word’ when reading up on Net Neutrality
Posted on October 23, 2009 | No CommentsThe beauty of the Drudge Report right now is that Mr. Drudge is working against his very interests. He's got some ridiculous headline right now, JULIUS AT FCC WANTS TO 'REGULATE' INTERNET, that's meant to wile up his easily excitable readership. What's going on is that the FCC has moved one step closer to bringin Net Neutrality to fruition, and has invited the public to weigh in until January 14.

For sale on craigslist: a porn laptop for $30
Posted on July 21, 2009 | No Comments
You have to give it up to this guy for being so honest. He clearly states how he has used the 8-year old laptop and is now offering it up to whoever brings him $30. That's not that bad of a deal if you look at his listing, which describes the years of dedication that went into crafting this notebook.

Get you some Mojo (SDK for WebOS)
Posted on June 27, 2009 | No Comments
Get some sweet, sweet Palm Mojo early. It's basically the SDK for WebOS and it just showed up on the interwebs. Most interesting, however, is the lengths folks will go not to anger the Palm Gods:
Currently, no word on whether or not Palm is okay with this, and we can’t imagine that they are thrilled, so download at your own risk. Depending on how this one goes, we may have to pull all the links if Palm requests (we’re all for the sharing of information, but we want to help Palm, not destroy them). If they feel leaking the SDK early is only detrimental to them as a company, then we will remove the URLs.

Nokia’s N97 unboxed on video — somehow, someway
Posted on May 31, 2009 | No CommentsWe always heard that where there is a will, there is a way. Said mantra has never been more exemplified than in the video past the break, as someone halfway across this great planet has seemingly procured what could be the very first shipping N97. Still, we'd like to point out a few things here: first, Nokia has yet to officially ship these things, so there's at least a sliver of a chance that by mashing play, you'll actually be watching a KIRF unboxing, and in turn, supporting terrorism. Also, we can't understand a word the unboxer says, so again, he could be explaining just how elaborate of a fake it is, and we'd never know. Needless to say, you should definitely proceed at your own risk.
Update: Seems another fellow got one, and he's got pictures to prove it.Continue reading Nokia's N97 unboxed on video -- somehow, someway
