Droid X torn down, found to contain stuff
Posted on June 25, 2010 | No CommentsWe've gotta tell you, looking at that belligerent red eye gracing the visage of the Droid X, we weren't entirely sure the thing wouldn't go all robot apocalypse on us if we ever tried disassembling it. Thankfully, someone else has taken that risk for us, and now we've got all sorts of nude pictures to gawk at. This teardown comes complete with some very practical how-to instructions, including the advice to use your nails to pry the case open instead of a metal screwdriver -- but only if you don't want to leave your roided-up Droid with battle scars. Hit the source link for more of the good stuff.Droid X torn down, found to contain stuff originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 25 Jun 2010 06:17:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

UPenn students invent Manhacks
Posted on May 28, 2010 | No CommentsSweet Jupiter’s Loins! Look at this thing. It’s a quad rotor flyer with 20 independent cameras designed to blow through windows and sneak around tight spaces nary a whisper. I’m not sure what’s scarier – the device itself or the sounds it makes. The folks at the GRASP Lab at Penn created this robot. You may [...] -

You fire up the old PC, get the TPS reports ready, and while the FTOPS are loading you visit CrunchGear. You play the video above. You realize that your entire world, [...] -
New rescue robot pulls victims inside its body
Posted on May 7, 2010 | No CommentsThis looks much like a robot that actually serves a purpose. Japan-based tool maker Kikuchi has developed a robo vehicle that can pull victims at disaster sites into its body. The obvious goal is to support human rescuers for whom it's too dangerous to reach injured people during certain emergency situations.

Videos: Watch Japanese soccer robots scoring “spectacular” goals
Posted on May 5, 2010 | No Comments
Remember the soccer-playing humanoid we've shown you Monday? Well, the “RoboCup Japan Open 2010″ [JP] he was taking part in during the last few days ended yesterday, but not before the yet to be named robot showed off his (limited) skills as a goalkeeper. And he faced an (apparently) stronger adversary.

U.S. military launches unmanned X-37B spacecraft. Too bad it refuses to tell us what it’s for!
Posted on April 23, 2010 | No CommentsIt's all a bit like Mass Effect. The U.S. Air Force successfully launched the X-37B unmanned spacecraft yesterday, but the question that nobody knows the answer to: what's it for? The Air Force refuses to say what the X-37B's mission on beyond something along the lines "we wanted to see if it works." OK, but do you plan on doing with it? "Sorry, classified." Neat.

The Mint Automatic Roboswiffer: Like Roomba but more like Robocop
Posted on April 22, 2010 | No CommentsWhat the deuce? This looks like some sort of Swiffer/robot cyborg that mated with an Apple power supply. Apparently the Mint floor cleaner is available for $249 and is now on pre-order. The sweeper dusts and wet mops floors and you can add Swiffer cloths to it. It’s much smaller than the Roomba and I’d [...] -
Fujitsu develops robotic care bear that giggles, snores
Posted on April 5, 2010 | No CommentsJapan gave us one creepy robot over the weekend, but the country of kawaii hasn't forgotten about its roots. Case in point: A new robo bear, designed by Fujitsu and especially geared towards the elderly. The yet-to-be-named robot, which follows a line of other advanced robot bears from Japan, can even snore. Isn't that adorable?
